It's been a rough couples of weeks and we've all been in survival mode. Basic life has not been easy, but now we are supposed to come out of it and function again. This drastic change is not easy for many of us and requires some thought and introspection.

Whether it hits you physically or emotionally, combined with exhaustion, grief, survival, anxiety, lack of energy, or relief that we can focus on our own personal issues again, we could all use a little support through this time.

If you feel like you could benefit from some sessions with a qualified therapist, feel free to be in touch with us to help you find the right therapist, whatsapp us at 055-978-8490.

How is everyone doing?
Here are some TIPS for all those that have hearts that are racing a mile a minute from the sirens.

How is everyone doing?
Here are some TIPS for all those that have hearts that are racing a mile a minute from the sirens.
Firstly, if you are shaking and sweating and have your heart racing a million miles a second, know that your body is working properly. It’s trying to help you to escape something dangerous and it’s a survival tactic we have in our bodies. When our hearts race, we release adrenaline allowing us extra energy to be able to deal with danger. Your job is to get to a safe place, a shelter where you can be most protected.
Once you’ve done that, and now that you’re in that safe place, here are some techniques to calm yourself down.

1. BREATH. Pay attention to your body and specifically your racing heart. Try some breathing exercises. Inhale deeply into your stomach and slowly exhale your breath by either using a straw shape with your mouth or by saying “ssss…” as slowly as possible. When we exhale like that we are slowing down our heart from racing and therefore calming ourselves down.

2. HUG someone. Touch releases hormones that help us feel calm. If you have children, hug them and breath together. Your calm with help them deal with what they are feeling.
If you are by yourself, cross your arms and hug your shoulders. This has the same affect on releasing those calming hormones.

3. Keep your MIND busy, look around and find something blue, something orange, something round and something square. Count from 20 backwards or try and work on a word game.

4. Do NOT watch news all day. News is known to increase anxiety. Keep updated but limit yourself to not get caught up in it at all times. Do not expose children to graphic images, they respond differently to the way that we do.

5. Help separate the danger (when there is a siren) to when there is fear (that often stays long after the siren is here). When there is no siren, remind yourself you are safe. There is no immediate danger, you are okay and you have the strength to deal with whatever comes up.

6. GRATITUDE. It’s hard to see the good right now, but every rocket episode is an opportunity to be grateful that we are alive, well, and that G-d was protecting us at that moment.
Wishing you all safety, calm and love. We will get through this together.

7. HOPE. We are going through a difficult time but it is only temporary, we will get through it together.

What to do when you feel sad and what does Depression look like in kids?

1. Changes in mood or irritability -
Does your child seem more angry or upset than usual? Do they explode over minor incidents? Do they become overly sensitive and cry about the small things?

2. Increased clinginess/dependence -
Being overly clingy or dependant is often a sign of regression in kids. Working with a therapist can help parents understand where these issues stem from and how to help their children gain more independence.

3. Withdrawal from favorite activities / isolation -
Have you noticed your child used to love going to extra-curricular activities and now only wants to stay home? Do they complain about friends or social situations more than usual?

4. Sleep or appetite changes -
Sudden changes in sleeping or eating habits are often early signs that your child is having a hard time. Everyday routine can become overwhelming for kids experiencing anxiety, sadness or feelings of loneliness.

5. Stomach aches or headaches - Anxiety in kids often shows up in physical symptoms. If your child constantly complains of not feeling well, they may be having emotional difficulties. Therapy is a safe-space to explore emotions and gain coping skills.
If you think your child needs some extra support, we would love to set you up wih a caring therapist that specializes in child therapy.
