The following is heartbreaking 💔 and was written by the husband of a colleague of mine - Israel Altman - he is a clinical social worker and doing an internship in couples and family therapy -
Imagine waking up to a reality in which all
your clients, ‘your families’ vanish. All the families you practice family therapy with are gone. butchered. all the dilemmas, the emotions, concepts, values, thoughts, secrets, dreams and passions are dead.
Imagine waking up to a reality were all your clients are gone, burned, killed in their beds.
Imagine your eyes while reading the social media posts that talk about your dead clients. Smiling Photos of children, you played with in the family therapy room, adolescents’ laughs challenging you, man and women that discussed intimacy, love and passion with you, their therapist. Imagine googling posts in the social media that speak about people who trusted you, that allowed you be a true listener, a partner in a challenging time in their family life cycle.
It’s a nightmare and You can’t share those family interactions you experienced cause of ethics. Even some of your colleagues experience terror in their burned homes and the ones that survived focus on focusing, bouncing back , serving their communities.
self care? later. the current agony and sadness will wait for you to process. now doing.
Imagine that you can’t imagine entering the clinic where you sat with them, imagine you can’t imagine meeting a family that all her members are alive and present.
Imagine a nightmare in which armed people got into your patients’ bedrooms and r***d, kill, burn your patients or kidnapped their kids. It happened to me and to my colleagues in our family therapy Hosen clinics (resilience centers) in the south of Israel. Hamas is Isis. October 7th, 2023.
