A four-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency department of Dana-Dwek Children’s Hospital at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) with severe respiratory failure. Diagnostic examinations revealed a rare and extremely dangerous condition - an enormous tumor that had almost completely filled the left lung.
Following urgent diagnostic procedures a rare diagnosis was confirmed: pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB). The pediatric hemato-oncology team initiated targeted chemotherapy which led to a significant improvement in the child’s breathing after the very first course and reduced the tumor by more than half.
The next stage involved a rare and highly complex surgical intervention. Under the leadership of thoracic surgery specialists a complete resection of the affected lung was performed along with reconstruction of the surrounding vital structures. Such procedures have been described only in a very limited number of cases in global medical practice.
The child recovered rapidly and began breathing independently just a few days after surgery.

Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) and Matricelf have signed an agreement to manufacture engineered nerve implants at Ichilov’s Institute for Advanced Cellular Therapy.

✨When treating brain metastases there is no place for a “wait and see” approach. From the very beginning therapy must be precise, effective and focused on preserving neurological function and the patient’s quality of life.
We congratulate the Radiotherapy Institute research team on receiving the Elrov Digital Health Grant for the development of an innovative artificial intelligence–based system for personalized radiotherapy planning. The solution integrates data from radiotherapy plans, MRI and CT imaging, clinical information and molecular pathology increasing treatment accuracy while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.
The project is carried out by a multidisciplinary team including Dr. Orit Forman, Dr. Lior Tzah and Natan Strauss in collaboration with Professor Raja Giryes and Professor Noam Ben-Eliezer from Tel Aviv University.

CAR-T therapy is indicated for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in middle-aged and older patients after two lines of treatment, as well as for relapsed acute B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia in patients up to 25 years of age. These criteria have been approved by regulatory authorities in the United States, Europe, and Israel based on years of clinical research.
