In Traditional Chinese Medicine, these same stages are understood through a different lens: Yin, Yang, Qi, and Blood.

1. drink ice water at restaurants - icy cold drinks are known in TCM to slow down digestion, bloat and make you feel lethargic.
2. cold plunge - a lot of the evidence around cold plunging was developed around men and the effect on male bodies. in tcm, heat promotes fertility and i’m currently focused on doing things that support that department in my life. you can find me in the sauna instead.
3. leave the house without a scarf or sweater in the late fall/winter months - in tcm, it is recommended to keep the neck warm to prevent colds and coughs. it also can help prevent your muscles (traps, rhomboids, pecs) from clenching up in response to external feelings of cold.
4. stay up late multiple nights in a row - never. ever. ever. sure i’ll have a late night once in awhile but staying up multiple nights in a row can totally mess up your sleep cycle and it affects everything: mood, focus, mental clarity, memory, how well i’m able to workout the next day, increased muscle pain and tension.
