My name is Gil and I am a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Nutrition) therapist from Borshim Campus, Tel Aviv University. In addition, I have a completed a diploma in Chinese & Macrobiotic Nutrition with Eyal Shpringer. I have a BSc in Molecular Biology from Imperial College, University of London and a PhD from Oxford University, where I specialized in Cancer Research and published extensively. I then continued to research processes of programmed cell death as a European Union (EMBO) Post-doctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel. Before studying Chinese medicine, I worked in Teva Pharmaceuticals for 13 years, leading the Global Multiple Sclerosis business. Though I appreciate the benefits of Western Medicine, I've come to believe that Chinese Medicine has a lot more to offer in restoring balance and maintaining well-being.

🍑The shape of your butt may reveal your diabetes risk, more than we ever thought

New research suggests that the gluteus maximus isn’t just for sitting or selfies, its shape may predict future Type 2 diabetes. And the story is very different for men and women. Data was presented at the Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting.

Scientists analyzing 3D MRI scans of over 60,000 people were surprised by how clearly the patterns split by s*x.
• Men with diabetes showed localized thinning of the muscle, a sign of true muscle loss.
• Women showed outward “bulging,” likely caused by fat infiltrating the muscle rather than healthy strength.

But the most fascinating part was the baseline effect:
👉 People who already had a larger, fuller glute muscle at the start had a much lower risk of developing diabetes later, even after adjusting for age, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, physical activity, and lifestyle.

Fitness mattered too. Individuals who were more active and had stronger grip strength tended to have a rounder, healthier glute shape. Aging, long hours of sitting, and frailty were linked to the opposite — a thinner, weaker muscle.

The researchers note this was a snapshot in time, but the massive scale gives a new window into how muscle quality reflects metabolic health.

Bottom line: protecting muscle — especially in the glutes — may be far more important for diabetes prevention than we realized.

The researchers used MRI 3D mapping, a technique that processes a series of MRI images to create a detailed 3D anatomical model, allowing for improved visualization. The 3D mapping revealed distinct, s*x-specific patterns in the gluteus maximus that were associated with type 2 diabetes, suggesting t...

Each additional diet soda (i.e Coke Zero etc) is linked to 34% increase in dementia risk!
Genetics are beyond us, but this is something we can avoid

Hello Healthiers.
Hope you are having a nice weekend.
Sharing with you a new article I have written that may interest you - if not for yourself, for your children & grandchildren.

As fatty liver has now been diagnosed in 9 yo (beyond my understanding since you need time for the liver to be so damaged) and cancers under 40s are on the rise (due to UPFs which have been with us since the 90s) - you may find is useful and feel free to share it:

What are UPFs according to the classification? NOVA Classification Most research uses the NOVA classification, which groups foods by the purpose and extent of processing, not just nutrients. In NOVA, UPFs are Group 4: industrially manufactured products made from combinations of refined ingredients (...

Why I fell in love with Oriental Medicine...

Hi. My name is Gil and I am a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition) therapist from Borshim Campus, Tel Aviv University. In addition, I have a completed a diploma in Chinese & Macrobiotic Nutrition with Eyal Shpringer. I am currently studying Kiiko Matsumoto-style Japanese Acupuncture.

I have a BSc in Molecular Biology from Imperial College (University of London), a PhD from Oxford University (in Cancer Research) and an European Union (EMBO) post-doctoral fellowship at the Weizmann Institute, Israel. I have 8 peer-reviewed research publications.

I currently work as a therapist in Refuot, Israel’s oldest and most established Complementary & Alternative Medicine clinic. In addition, I work as an assistant in Acupuncture Studies in Broshim College and as a teacher, in Broshim and abroad on “Evidence & Research in Chinese Medicine”. I am also part of the International Community of Chinese Medicine (ICCM) Core team and the Evidence-Based Acupuncture (EBA) Team.
