🥄 Is Salt Really the Enemy? 🧂💧

Turns out, the truth about salt might surprise you! Despite years of low-salt advice, research is showing that moderate sodium might actually benefit most of us. 🌍 Countries like South Korea enjoy low heart disease rates with saltier diets, and studies suggest the body manages salt quite well. For those with healthy kidneys, high salt levels are often processed effectively without a spike in blood pressure. 📈

However, going too low on salt can stress your body, raise stress hormones, and even impact mood and energy. 🙃 So if you find yourself craving a bit of salt, your body might actually be telling you it needs it!

In the early 1900's there were very few cardiologists, and the conditions they treat were congenital rather than the consequences of lifestyle choices and poisonous products.

The same goes for diabetes, and not just, but especially type 2, and childhood diabetes was almost non existent.

Obesity was a single digit % number and not 70% of western populations.

Digestive issues, dementia, excess cancer rates, infertility, autism and learning disorders in our babies - all once rare, but now the 'norm'.

What's changed? The main thing, the quality of our food, and our daily habits.

Want to avoid these once old age diseases in your middle age? Want to die older than Granny rather than younger? Want to conceive healthy kids without any birth defects or learning disorders?

It's not too late.

Garbage in, Garbage out -

or if you clean up your diet, eat evolutionarily appropriate foods, avoid poisons, exercise routinely, get in the sun, and prioritise sleep - then it won't be garbage out.

🥦🌱 Is there a link between the food on our plates and the thoughts in our minds?

Recent research says YES! Ultra-processed foods (UPFs)—think sugary cereals, sodas, and fast food—may play a big role in our mental well-being.

Studies show that high UPF consumption is linked to a threefold increase in mental health challenges, especially depression and anxiety.

The impact is strongest in young adults, who are the biggest consumers of UPFs. 🧠💥

While exercise and income are often seen as mental health boosts, they don’t seem to offset the effects of UPFs.

So what can we do? Swapping processed meals for whole, nutrient-rich foods could be a powerful step toward a healthier mind. 🌿💪

There's not one pill in the world that comes with the efficacy rates and benefits of exercise.

No, you can't out run a bad diet, but exercise can, and does mitigate many of the environmental onslaughts our bodies face.

Do you need to be a body-builder, or obsessed with the gym? No.

No need to make it complicated.

1️⃣ Walk every day, no matter what. 10k steps is a good baseline. It doesn't have to all be in one go.🚶🏼‍♀️‍➡️

2️⃣ Do some kind of combined strength and mobility exercises 3 times per week. Even 20 minutes can make a huge difference. Equipment can be useful but is not necessary at all. 🙆‍♂️

Turns out, there's more to the story! 🌿 Olive oil is 100% fat, but its nutritional content is limited to small amounts of vitamins E and K—no protein or significant minerals. While EVOO is a more natural option, whole olives provide better nutrients for fewer calories. 🫒

The health claims? 💡 Olive oil is often touted as anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants, and heart-healthy. But many other foods deliver more antioxidants with fewer calories. And although olive oil may help lower cholesterol, this doesn’t guarantee better heart health! ❤️

When should you use olive oil? It's great for salad dressings, light stir-frying, and sauces like Mediterranean sofrito. But don’t expect it to perform miracles! 💪
