Carpal Tunnel Syndrome :-
Carpal tunnel syndrome affects the wrist and hand, causing pain, numbness, and tingling. It occurs when the median nerve which runs from the forearm to the hand becomes compressed or irritated as it passes through the carpal tunnel a narrow passageway in the wrist formed by bones and ligaments.
Cause of CTS :-
- Causes are Repetitive hand and wrist movements such as typing, using a computer mouse
- Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis, thyroid dysfunction, hormonal changes during pregnancy.
Symptoms of CTS
- Symptoms are generally Pain, discomfort in the wrist, hand, forearm
- Numbness and tingling, weakness and decreased grip strength.
-Patient experience weakness in the hand and a decrease in grip strength, making it challenging to perform everyday tasks.
Treatment of CTS :-
Physio assess the condition and customize the treatment protocol accordingly.
The treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome may involve Specific exercises can be prescribed to stretch the muscles and tendons in the hand and wrist, as well as strengthen the surrounding muscles to improve support.
- Manual therapy
- Mobilization or soft tissue massage
- Laser, ultrasound
- Dry Needling
- Kinesio tapping
