Safe Gastro and Surgery Centre, Agra
---
**Background:**
Infrared Coagulation (IRC) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical outpatient procedure for the treatment of early-stage hemorrhoids (piles). This study evaluates the effectiveness, safety, and patient satisfaction among 100 patients who underwent IRC at Safe Gastro and Surgery Centre, Agra.
**Methods:**
A prospective observational study was conducted on 100 patients (Grades I & II internal hemorrhoids) who underwent IRC under the care of Dr. Karan R Rawat between January 2024 and June 2025. Patients were assessed for symptom relief, recurrence, complications, and overall satisfaction over a follow-up period of 6 months.
**Results:**
* **Complete Symptom Relief:** 92% of patients reported complete resolution of bleeding and prolapse within 2 weeks.
* **Partial Relief:** 7% had minor residual symptoms that improved with dietary advice and topical medications.
* **Recurrence Rate:** Only 1% reported recurrence at 6 months.
* **Complication Rate:** Minimal, with transient discomfort and mild spotting in 8% cases, managed conservatively.
* **Patient Satisfaction:** 96% rated their experience as ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’.
* **Procedure Time:** Average IRC duration was under 10 minutes.
* **Return to Activity:** All patients resumed normal activity within 24–48 hours.
---
Hemorrhoidal disease is one of the most common proctological disorders encountered in clinical practice. Conventional surgical options, though effective, often involve discomfort, downtime, and complications. Infrared Coagulation (IRC) has emerged as an effective, office-based modality with low morbidity, particularly suitable for early-grade internal hemorrhoids.
Dr. Karan R Rawat, a leading proctologist and colorectal surgeon in Agra, presents this real-world a**lysis of IRC outcomes in a cohort of 100 patients.
---
* **Inclusion Criteria:** Patients aged 18–70 years with Grade I or II internal hemorrhoids.
* **Exclusion Criteria:** Grade III/IV hemorrhoids, thrombosed piles, a**l fissures/fistula.
* **Procedure:** IRC was performed using a standard infrared coagulator after local anesthesia or peria**l cooling.
* **Follow-Up Schedule:** Day 7, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-procedure.
