Construct your own balanced diet using this chart👇🏼

Eating in similar proportions might help reducing risk of most lifestyle disorders and shed extra weight.
Prefer plant based food groups like vegetables/cereals/pulses/fruits/nuts over dairy/animal meat. Use low fat dairy.

Eat ‘whole foods’, that is a food which is closest to it’s original form.

Reduce or eliminate all packed/processed foods like biscuits/syrups/sauces. Use home made achar or home made deserts like kheer/halwa in moderation.

We judge obese people on the basis of their choice of food,
is that really indiscipline?
NO,
It is now proven that obesity is a disease, where our body/ energy control systems do not function normally anymore. Choices we make are not under our control.

We have 2 parts of the brain that work in energy control systems,
1- Hypothalamus/metabolic brain- That senses quality and quantity of food through stretch receptors in our stomach signaled by appetite hormones.

2-Hind brain/Emotional brain- Has more to do with pleasure and reward from certain foods(Fat, sugar and cereals) controlled by dopamine signals.

Our emotional brain or hind brain easily overrides our metabolic brain or hypothalamus when we are obese, leaving no control over our food choices.

There is huge stigma associated with being obese. Social support is extremely necessary to fight obesity.

Can you please spare a minute for me ?

Look around you. How much plastic do you see ? Most plastics contain a substance called BPA which is released into the food when warm / hot food is kept in plastic containers. BPA also gets into the food if the plastic container itself is warm.

This BPA then gets into our body and disrupts many hormones - thus causing diabetes, thyroid issues, cancer, PCOS, obesity amongst others.

🎯Switch to using metal or glass containers for storing food and packing lunch.

🎯Don't forget to use metal bottles for water.

🎯Don't microwave food in plastic bowls. Use glass ones instead.

🎯Use metal tea strainers instead of plastic.

🎯 Children's feeding bottles and pacifiers may be made with plastics containing BPA. Make sure that you buy BPA free products for them.

🎯Don't use plastic cutlery to eat food.

If you are suffering from PCOS, infertility, diabetes, thyroid issues - reducing BPA intake can massivly impact your health for the better.

WATER = WEIGHT LOSS

Do you know how water intake can help with weight loss?

-It is a natural appetite suppressant
-Water is necessary to metabolise the stored fat into energy.
-Studies have confirmed, water consumption activates the sympathetic nervous system to increase the metabolic rate and hence burn more calories.
-Water is required to build muscle and have a productive strength training routine, again affecting the metabolism too.

A Lot of people want weight loss just by diet, without exercising.

Truth is, Your resting metabolic rate (Metabolism) Inevitably decreases in attempt to lose weight even with a well managed weight reduction program, reason being, loss of lean muscle mass along with fat percentage.

Exercise helps to balance the loss of lean muscle. Resistance training increases lean muscle mass, ability to utilise more energy intake and increases bone mineral density, specially important for women.

Do you know what a ‘very low calorie diets’ (400-800 cals) does to your body?

50% of the Rapid weight reduction caused by ‘very low calorie diets’ is actually Fluids. It can cause serious reduction in body fluids followed by Hypotension (Low BP)

Burning of too much fat too soon leads to
1- Increase in urine ketones, which interferes with the excretion of uric acid leading to gout.
2- Increased cholesterol in blood leading to a risk of gallstones.

Recently i have come across so many of my clients associating ‘GUILT’ with consuming food, specially the ladies. To my surprise, now the problem i see in most of the clients is not over-eating, but it is actually under-eating.

So i had to address this issue.

Contrary to the common belief that ‘’obese/overweight people are eating more and just sitting around all day’’, most of my obese clients are eating ‘very low calorie diet (600-800 cals)’’, and were guilty, demotivated and disheartened when they decide to seek help from me.

Most of them had tried the trendy fad diets and gained that weight back in the past, had deficiencies associated with such restrictive diets.

I couldn’t help but notice the discrimination and prejudices attached to being obese, specially for the ladies that were pushing them to adopt severely restrictive diets and falling prey to quacks in the industry.

Called as ‘’Size Ceiling at work places’’ or as the millennials would call it- ‘‘Fat shaming’’. My lady clients have been fat shamed in gyms, work places, their own home, and even medical institutions by doctors!

‘’Obese people, particularly women, are socially stigmatised. The negative perception adversely affects their educational, socioeconomic, marital and employment status.
Research confirms that diverse groups, including children, adults and even medical personnel, hold negative stereotypes of obese persons. ‘’ Source: Data from council on size and weight discrimination and American obesity Association.

There is nothing wrong to work for your dream body/dream look. But respect your body and do it the healthy way, even if it takes time. To fight this prejudice, educate the people around you and embrace your own body! Do not let anyone tell you that you should look a certain way.

story HealthifyMe

It was a great experience connecting with healthifyme. Both my coaches Shradha and Aparna consistently supported and motivated me through my journey. It was because of their support and motivation that I could return to my pre pregnancy weight within a period of 2 months only. It not only boosted my confidence, also helped me take better care of my baby and escape the dreaded post partum depression which is on a boon amongst new moms nowadays.

Mango article by CANQC
Can people with diabetes tango to a mango ??

When a self-proclaimed celebrity nutritionist says that you can eat a mango
using social media as a medium of communication, all hell breaks loose and
we have our patients with diabetes buying mangoes by the dozens and having
it as mango juice, aamras and milkshakes. It is indeed a crazy time of the
year for all dieticians and physicians managing the sky rocketing blood
glucose levels of their patients.

So the question arises that can people with diabetes have mangoes ? The good
news is that "Yes, of course a person with diabetes can have mangoes, but they
need to know how much and when to eat?" They also need to know when not to
eat 🙂

Mango is a nutritious fruit containing many essential nutrients and the
bioactive compound mangiferin which has demonstrated to exert protective
effects against degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, obesity
and diabetes. It also protects the body against damage associated with
oxidative stress.

120 g (1/2 cup cubed) of edible portion of mango (Mangifera indica L.) gives
15 g of carbs. Mangoes score 51-60 on the glycemic index (GI) chart and
glycemic load is between 7-9 depending on the variety of mango one buys.
Mango is therefore a medium Glycemic Index and a Low Glycemic Load fruit
making it safe for people with diabetes to eat in portioned amounts. To
consume or not to consume depends on the blood glucose control and
variability, HbA1c and level of physical activity. If the blood glucose
levels are well controlled, it is advisable to eat the fruit in between
meals not with food like most people do. Do not have it as a juice or as an
aamras or milkshake. This will spike up the blood glucose levels. The best
time to consume mango is before an activity so that the blood glucose levels
remain stable. Buy just ripe or slightly unripe mangoes as over ripe mangoes
will have a higher glycemic index. Consume fresh mangoes only during the
season (end April and May) and not when not in season to reap the maximum
health benefits.

It is best to consult a qualified dietician to know how much and how often
you can eat !

HealthifyMe Not just weight loss, your lifestyle should show change in your blood work and medical conditions too. Weighing scale is deceptive. Stop yoyo dieting!

''I am 5'5' and was 88.4 and not much bothered about this huge number! But after getting the Healthifyme app my vision towards myself changed. I started casually by tracking my meals and noticed that my diet wasn't balanced. I was drinking very less water. I was also hypothyroidic. After getting the special package for my thyroid issues and logging in meals, water intake and workouts, made me feel like a school girl. Like my teachers (the coaches) are noticing my homework and I need to achieve my minimum goals. This keeps me motivated. Today I am 73.8 kgs!! And I feel like I am 10 years younger. I feel more energetic, more positive and much healthier. Thanks to Healthifyme and my diet and fitness coaches''
