Recently i have come across so many of my clients associating ‘GUILT’ with consuming food, specially the ladies. To my surprise, now the problem i see in most of the clients is not over-eating, but it is actually under-eating.
So i had to address this issue.
Contrary to the common belief that ‘’obese/overweight people are eating more and just sitting around all day’’, most of my obese clients are eating ‘very low calorie diet (600-800 cals)’’, and were guilty, demotivated and disheartened when they decide to seek help from me.
Most of them had tried the trendy fad diets and gained that weight back in the past, had deficiencies associated with such restrictive diets.
I couldn’t help but notice the discrimination and prejudices attached to being obese, specially for the ladies that were pushing them to adopt severely restrictive diets and falling prey to quacks in the industry.
Called as ‘’Size Ceiling at work places’’ or as the millennials would call it- ‘‘Fat shaming’’. My lady clients have been fat shamed in gyms, work places, their own home, and even medical institutions by doctors!
‘’Obese people, particularly women, are socially stigmatised. The negative perception adversely affects their educational, socioeconomic, marital and employment status.
Research confirms that diverse groups, including children, adults and even medical personnel, hold negative stereotypes of obese persons. ‘’ Source: Data from council on size and weight discrimination and American obesity Association.
There is nothing wrong to work for your dream body/dream look. But respect your body and do it the healthy way, even if it takes time. To fight this prejudice, educate the people around you and embrace your own body! Do not let anyone tell you that you should look a certain way.
