Urinary incontinence a condition which is common and is indicated by the sudden urge to urinate that results in intermittent urinary leakage during laughing, coughing, sneezing, exercise or even performing day-to-day activities.

Urine Incontinence in adults can occur in both men and women with ageing being one of the major causes of occurrence. There are several reasons which cause incontinence in the human body including structural problems with the bladder, UTIs, constipation and problems with the bladder muscles among others.

✅Major diseases responsible for the onset of urine incontinence problem are:
1) Diabetes
2) Urinary Disease
3) Surgery
4) Prostate

✅Forms
1) Urge Incontinence
Sudden strong urge to urinate where leakage occurs if toilet is not reached on time.

2) Stress incontinence
Leakage occurs during coughing, laughing, sneezing or lifting heavy stuff.

✅How in different ways Electra Kegal Therapy is useful

1) The strength and coordination of the pelvic floor improves.

2) Improves the users awareness of their pelvic floor and improves their ability to perform appropriate contractions.

3) Electra kegal therapy along with kegal exercise helps with the erectile dysfunction.

Carpal tunnel syndrome ✍️
The anatomy of the wrist, health problems and possibly repetitive hand motions can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome.
Proper treatment usually relieves the tingling and numbness and restores wrist and hand function.

✅Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms usually start gradually and include:

1) Tingling or numbness. You may notice tingling and numbness in the fingers or hand. You might feel a sensation like an electric shock in these fingers. The sensation may travel from the wrist up the arm. These symptoms often occur while holding a steering wheel, phone or newspaper.

2) Weakness. You may experience weakness in the hand and drop objects. This may be due to the numbness in the hand or weakness of the thumb's pinching muscles,

▶️Although it is a gradual process, for most people carpal tunnel syndrome will worsen over time without some form of treatment. For this reason, it is important to be evaluated:

1. Doing these exercises regularly can gradually decreases the pain
2. Wearing a brace or a splint at night will keep you away from bending the wrist.
3. changing or modifying activities/position can help slow or stop progression of the disease.

Yes, you read it right! Physiotherapy can certainly improve mental health too! 🙌

Tight deadlines, long commutes, a demanding job, and poor work-life balance are common causes of day to day stress.

✅How Stress Affects Your Body

Every time you’re stressed, your body’s fight or flight reaction is triggered. If that acute stress is prolonged for a very long time it becomes chronic and may cause :-

1) Depression
2) Fatigue and sleeplessness
3) Inflammation
4) Headaches and muscle tightness
5) Neck, back, and shoulder pain

☑️How physiotherapy relieves stress

Physiotherapy can help manage stress and stress symptoms by correcting muscle imbalance, improving strength and reducing pain.

1. Lower cortisol levels
Daily diaphragmatic breathing is clinically proven to significantly lower cortisol levels, improve relaxation, and improve concentration.

2. Reduce stress sensitivity
Studies show that regular exercise can lower perceived stress by 50 to 78%, reduce stress sensitivity and stress symptoms.

3. Improve sleep
Relaxation techniques, posture training, and patient education on optimal sleep positioning have been shown to improve both sleep quality and sleep duration.

4. Improve quality of life
Physiotherapy guided exercise is proven to improve physical condition, self-esteem, the perception of self-worth, and quality of life, all of which promotes mental health and well-being.

5. Chiropractic adjustment of the body which helps in reducing symptoms of chronic pain.

Planter fasciitis 📌

✅Plantar fasciitis typically causes a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. The pain is usually the worst with the first few steps after awakening, although it can also be triggered by long periods of standing or when you get up from sitting.

🔱Causes

1) The plantar fascia is a band of tissue (fascia) that connects your heel bone to the base of your toes. It supports the arch of the foot and absorbs shock when walking.

2) Tension and stress on the fascia can cause small tears. Repeated stretching and tearing of the facia can irritate or inflame it.

🔱Risk factors

1) Certain types of exercise. Activities that place a lot of stress on your heel and attached tissue, such as long-distance running, ballet dancing and aerobic dance can contribute to the onset of plantar fasciitis.

2) Foot mechanics. Flat feet, a high arch or even an atypical pattern of walking can affect the way weight is distributed when you're standing and can put added stress on the plantar fascia.

3) Obesity - Excess pounds put extra stress on your plantar fascia.

✅How is physiotherapy is helpful?

A well-formulated pain-relieving plan may involve a series of specialized treatments, such as regular icing, massages, exercise, stretching. Some of these exercises will include stretching your calf muscles and the plantar fascia itself, as well as strengthening the muscles of the lower extremity to improve the way of moving

Tennis elbow 🎾🦾

Tennis elbow is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm.
Despite its name, athletes aren't the only people who develop tennis elbow.

📍Symptoms
The pain associated with tennis elbow may radiate from the outside of your elbow into your forearm and wrist. Pain and weakness may make it difficult to:

1)Shake hands or grip an object
2)Turn a doorknob
3)Hold a coffee cup

📍Causes
Tennis elbow is an overuse and muscle strain injury. The cause is repeated contraction of the forearm muscles that you use to straighten and raise your hand and wrist. The repeated motions and stress to the tissue may result in a series of tiny tears in the tendons that attach the forearm muscles to the bony prominence at the outside of your elbow.

📌Factors affecting tennis elbow

1) Occupation - People who have jobs that involve repetitive motions of the wrist and arm are more likely to develop tennis elbow. Examples include plumbers, painters, carpenters, butchers and cooks.

2) Certain sports - Participating in racket sports increases your risk of tennis elbow, especially if you employ poor stroke technique.

🖇How can we as a physiotherapist can help you-
Using advanced technology to heal the damaged tissues, and teach exercises to gradually stretch and learn some eccentric exercises to strengthen your muscles, especially the muscles of your forearm.

Bell's palsy is also known as acute peripheral facial palsy. It can occur at any age, it's caused by swelling and inflammation of the nerve that controls the muscles on one side of the face. It can also be caused by a reaction that occurs after a viral infection. Bell's palsy is a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face.

☑️Signs and symptoms
* Rapid onset of mild weakness to total paralysis on one side of your face — occurring within hours to days
* Facial droop and difficulty making facial expressions, such as closing your eye or smiling
* Drooling
* Pain around the jaw or in or behind your ear on the affected side
* Increased sensitivity to sound on the affected side
* Headache
* A loss of taste

☑️Precautions -
* Cover your eyes and ears in a windy weather
* Using cotton to avoid cold wind to directly enter your ears.

✅How Physiotherapy is helpful in treating Bell’s palsy -
Facial exercises and physical therapy for Bell's palsy help to increase muscle strength and to regain facial coordination from this temporary facial paralysis.
Stimulation. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) for facial paralysis is a technique in which muscles are electrically stimulated, causing them to contract.

✅What can you expect from us as a (physical therapist)
* Educate you about how to protect your face and your eye
* Show you how to manage your daily life functions while you have facial paralysis
* Explain the expected path to recovery, so that you will know the signs and symptoms of recovery
* Will help you regain the healthy pattern of movements that you need for facial expressions and function.

Ways in which ice pack is beneficial for our body🧊

✅Ice packs are often used after injuries. Applying an ice pack early and often for the first 48 hours will help minimize swelling, and decreasing swelling around an injury will help to control the pain.

1️⃣Ice treatments may also be used for chronic conditions, such as overuse injuries in athletes. In this case, ice the injured area after activity to help control inflammation.
2️⃣Ice packs can help minimize swelling around the injury, reduce bleeding into the tissues, and reduce muscle spasm and pain.

Application🧊

1)You can make ice packs with ice cubes in a plastic bag or wet tea towel
2)Never place ice directly on an injury
3)Keep the pack moving to avoid ice burns.
4)Never treat with ice for more than 10 minutes, and remove the pack immediately if the injury appears bright pink or red.

Text neck 🤚📱

Text neck syndrome refers to a repetitive stress injury to the neck caused by having your head in a forward position for extended period. The forward pending posture affects the curvature of the cervical spine, the neck and shoulder muscles, and supporting ligaments.

✅Some signs and symptoms of text neck syndrome include:
1) Sharp or Nagging pain in the neck and shoulders
2) Stiffness/tightness in shoulders and neck leading to decreased range of motion
3) Intermittent or constant headaches
4) Nerve pain with tingling and numbness in the upper limbs
5) Eye pain

✅Tips to prevent Text Neck Syndrome
1) Hold your mobile device up to eye level.
2) Slight tuck your chin and roll shoulder blades backwards.
3) Take breaks from your mobile device every 15 minutes.
4) Set reminders to shift positions.
5) For kids, rest the device on a table instead of in the hands or on the floor.

Interferential therapy (IFT)✨

➡️IFT which stands for Interferential Therapy is one of the types of electrotherapy used for the management of pain. The principle of interferential therapy is to cause two medium frequency currents of slightly different frequencies to interfere with one another.

➡️It is basically used for the treatment of Chronic, Post Traumatic, and Post-surgical pains. The basic principle involves the utilization of effects of low frequencies without painful or unpleasant side effects.

💥The major advantage of IFT is that it produces effects in the tissue, exactly where required without unnecessary and uncomfortable skin stimulation. This technique is widely used to elicit muscle contraction, promote healing and reduce edema.

⁉️How IFT works on an individual’s body?

Interferential current therapy works by sending small amounts of electrical stimulation to damaged tissues in the body. The therapy is meant to boost the body's natural process of responding to pain, by increasing circulation thus produces hormones that promote healing. IFT delivers intermittent pulses to stimulate surface nerves and block the pain signal, by delivering continuous deep stimulation into the affected tissue. IFT relieves pain, increases circulation, decreases edema, and stimulates the muscles.

✅The effect of IFT depends upon
1)Frequency
2) Intensity of current
3)Electrode placement
4)Localization of the lesion
