Happy to share that we successfully performed Gujarat’s first independently done MitraClip (XTW) procedure at NH Ahmedabad on 03-01-2023. MitraClip is a procedure to fix mitral valve regurgitation. Typically, mitral valve regurgitation or mitral regurgitation or MR is treated by open heart surgery. During the MitraClip procedure, the mitral valve is accessed without opening the chest, with transcatheter techniques, with a thin tube (called a catheter) that is guided through a vein in the leg to reach the heart. The heart continues to beat during the procedure and does not require a heart-lung bypass machine. A small implanted clip is attached to the mitral valve to help it close more completely. This helps to restore normal blood flow through the heart.
