Dr. mrinalendu das of rn tagore hospital, kolkata, touched hearts across mizoram by making sure six-year-old cicilya laltleipuii received life-saving heart surgery, even when her family couldnโt afford it โค๏ธ๐ฅ.
Cicilya, the eldest of three from the remote village of dilzawl, grew up in deep poverty without electricity. she suffered seizures from a young age, and in 2018 doctors found a hole in her heart. her family couldnโt pay for treatment outside mizoram until the zo inspiration foundation, a local charity, stepped in to fundraise.
In jan 2025, she had her first surgery at rn tagore hospital. but by may, her health worsened, and doctors said she had only two months to live without another operation. rushed back to kolkata, she underwent her second surgery on july 21, 2025.
The total medical cost was nearly โน13 lakh. donations covered โน6.25 lakh, and dr. das along with the hospital waived the remaining โน7,24,892. cicilya was discharged on july 30 and returned to her village โ reachable only by boat during the monsoon ๐ค๐.
