🧪 Tonics are NOT Magic Potions! 🙅‍♀️

Feeding Myth #7: "A daily multivitamin makes my child healthy."

Dr Amruta says: False Security! 🚨

Parents often rely on tonics to fix "weakness" or "poor eating."
But here is the science:
✅ Food = Fuel (Calories & Protein)
❌ Vitamins = Supplements (No Calories)

If your child isn't eating real food, a spoonful of syrup won't make them grow. It gives parents peace of mind, but it doesn't give the child nutrition.

Focus on the plate, not the bottle! 🍽️ > 💊

Share this if you agree that home-cooked food is the best vitamin!

💊 Looking for a "Magic Potion" to make your child eat? Stop! 🛑

Parents often ask me: "Doctor, please prescribe a tonic to increase my child's hunger."

Here is the hard truth: Medicine might artificially increase hunger, but it does absolutely nothing to change your child's eating behaviour.

Dr Amruta Thakkar explains that "Medicine-Induced Eating" is just as bad as "Screen-Induced Eating." You are creating a dependency, not a habit.

The Real Solution? Structured Feeding & Behavioural Change. Treat eating like brushing or bathing—a non-negotiable, disciplined routine.

It is the most common backup plan for Indian parents: If the child refuses roti/sabzi, give them a glass of milk so their stomach isn't empty.

Dr. Amruta Thakkar warns: This is a mistake!

Why?

It kills hunger: Milk protein fills the stomach quickly, so the child won't feel hungry for the next meal either.

It causes Anemia: Milk does not have enough iron. Kids who only drink milk often develop Iron Deficiency Anemia.

It causes Constipation: A liquid diet lacks the fibre needed for digestion.

Milk is a supplement, not a substitute for food! Watch the video to learn more. 🎥

It might seem like an easy fix to get your child to finish their meal, but Dr. Amruta Thakkar warns that this is a dangerous habit.

The Myth: TV/Mobile helps my child eat better. The Fact: It causes Distracted Eating. Your child isn't tasting or smelling the food; they are just swallowing mechanically.

The Consequences? 1️⃣ Screen-Induced Obesity: They overeat because they don't realize they are full. 2️⃣ Total Refusal: They lose interest in food and won't eat without a gadget.

It’s time to turn off the screen and bring back mindful eating! 🥗👶

🛑 Comparison is the thief of joy... and peace at mealtime! 🍽️

Do you look at other children eating big bowls of food and think, "Why doesn't my child eat like that?" 😟 Dr Amruta Thakkar says: Stop comparing!

Here is the Medical Fact: No two children are the same. Your child's hunger depends on their specific: ✅ Physical Activity ✅ Genetics ✅ Growth History ✅ Current Health

Your child's appetite is unique to their body, not their friend's. Watch the video to let go of the stress! 🎥

🥣 "He didn't eat it yesterday, so he must hate it." WRONG! ❌

Parents often tell me: "I tried giving this dal 2-3 times, but he won't eat it. He doesn't like the taste."

Here is the Fact: 2 or 3 tries is NOT enough! To truly know if your child likes a food, you need to offer it 15 to 20 times on different occasions.

It’s called Repeated Exposure. Don't assume they hate it—they are just learning to eat it! 👶🍲

It is a scary thought for any parent. You make a meal, and your child refuses to take a single bite. You worry: "Is my child starving?"

Dr. Amruta Thakkar is here to bust this common MYTH. 🚫

The Truth: Children are actually experts at regulating their own hunger! They have a natural feedback system that tells them when they need fuel.

The Medical Advice: Don't judge your child’s appetite based on 1 or 2 bad days. Look at their intake over 10 to 15 days. Often, if they skip a meal today, they will compensate and eat more tomorrow!

Relax, trust their body, and watch the full video for peace of mind! 🎥

Doctor, will basketball make my child taller?" "Should I give calcium tonics?"

I hear these questions every day in my OPD. As a pediatrician, I want to clarify that 60-80% of your child's height is decided by Genetics (Mom & Dad).

But what about the rest? In this video, I debunk the biggest myths parents believe: ❌ Sports (Cycling/Swimming): Great for fitness, but they do NOT increase bone length! ❌ Tonics: Unless there is a deficiency, they won't help. ✅ Sleep: This is the secret weapon! Growth hormone peaks at night.

📉 Is your child's weight actually "normal"? It’s not just about the number on the scale!

One of the most frequent questions I get in the OPD is about weight and height. Here is the truth: A single number cannot tell us if your child is healthy. We have to look at the Growth Trend.

In this video, I explain how we "connect the dots" on a growth chart. ✅ Upward Trend: Great! ➖ Flat Line: Watch out. 🔻 Downward Trend: Intervention needed.

Remember: Weight is often a short-term indicator (affected by recent illness or diet), while Height reflects long-term nutrition.

Burping your baby is an important part of his or her feeding routine.

Air bubbles can become trapped in your baby's stomach when he or she swallows, causing discomfort 👶🏻

Burping allows your baby to relieve pain by removing some of the gassiness. It also helps to keep spitting up to a minimum.
Crying, arched back, drawing legs into tummy, or clenching fists are all symptoms of trapped gas 😣

Check out the post above to find out how to burp your baby! 👆🏻
