Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are the “bread and butter” of any pediatric practice, but that doesn’t mean treatment should be routine. The most critical decision we make? Knowing when NOT to prescribe antibiotics.

I was honored to be invited as a speaker to discuss Recent Evidence in the Management of Respiratory Tract Infections in Children in India with a distinguished group of senior experts and leaders in Ahmedabad.

Our core philosophy for evidence-based care:
✅ The Right Indication
✅ The Right Choice
✅ The Right Dose
✅ The Right Duration

When we align these four pillars, we ensure we are offering the very best care to our children while fighting antibiotic resistance. 🛡️

It was a privilege to exchange insights and actionable take-home messages with such esteemed colleagues to keep our clinical practice sharp and relevant.

Parents & Colleagues: What is your biggest concern when it comes to antibiotic use in children? Let’s discuss below! 👇

The Annual Conference of Gujarat Pediatric Intensive Care was held on 14th and 15th March 2026 in Ahmedabad. I was fortunate to be a part of this academic feast as faculty for the Ventilation Workshop. Ventilation has always been my passion and remains one of the most important components of Pediatric Intensive Care practice. Drawing from personal experience and the best available evidence, I had the opportunity to teach key concepts of pediatric ventilation to practicing clinicians and resident doctors from across the state.

I was also privileged to participate as a panelist in a highly engaging panel discussion moderated by Dr. Hemant Gangolia, a renowned faculty from Maharashtra.

There is truly no age to learn, and conferences like these offer the ideal platform to upgrade and update one’s knowledge. Along with teaching, I learned several new and emerging concepts in Pediatric Intensive Care and refreshed my existing understanding.

The combination of teaching, learning, meaningful discussions with peers, reconnecting with colleagues, and hearing from our seniors made this conference truly memorable and kept the momentum alive throughout.

🍎 "My child was a great eater... what happened?!" 😤

Did your perfect eater suddenly start throwing food, refusing to listen, or acting "naughty" at the table once they turned one? Don't panic—it’s actually a sign of growth! 🚀

In Myth #11, Dr Amruta explains the science behind the shift:

The Growth Slowdown: Growth is incredibly rapid until age one, but scientifically slows down afterwards. This means their caloric requirement naturally drops.

Independence: At this age, children gain a sense of independence and a desire to explore—which often looks like "naughtiness".

Exploring Food: Throwing things or acting out is often just their way of exploring their world and testing their newfound independence.

The Doctor’s Advice: 💡
Deal with mealtimes calmly. Understand that this is a normal part of their development, not just "bad behaviour".

Have you noticed a change in your child’s eating habits after their first birthday? Tell us your story below! 👇

🍳 Turn “Kitchen Chaos” into “Kitchen Connection!” 👩‍🍳

Does your little one constantly “disturb” you in the kitchen while you’re trying to cook? Instead of keeping them out, bring them in! In Myth #10, Dr. Amruta explains why involving your child in the kitchen is the secret to a better eater.

Why it works: 🩺

Exploration: Children love to explore new textures and smells.
Independence: Helping with food “plating” or “making” develops a sense of independence.
Interest: When they help make it, they are much more likely to eat it!

Try this today: 💡
Give them their own plate and glass. Let them help you “pick” the vegetables (like Bhindi/Ladyfinger) or show them the colors of what you’re cutting.

What is one small task your child helps with in the kitchen? Let’s share ideas! 👇

👶 "But Mommy, your food looks better!" 🥗

Ever wonder why your child ignores their own meal but can’t wait to grab a bite from your plate? 🧐

In our latest Myth vs. Fact episode, we’re looking at Myth #9: "Is it bad that my child only wants to eat from my plate?"

The Reality: ✅ It’s actually a great sign!
Humans are social animals, and children are natural-born imitators. They watch your every move, from how you shop to how you eat. If they see you enjoying your meal, they want to be part of that experience!

The Doctor’s Strategy: 💡
Instead of fighting it, use it to your advantage!

The Copycat Effect: If you want them to eat healthy, let them see you eating healthy.

The Rainbow Plate: Make their plate just as attractive as yours. Use a variety of colors like Red (Apples/Beets), Yellow (Bananas), and White (Rice) to create a "Colourful Platter."

Engagement: A vibrant, colourful meal naturally encourages children to explore and eat.

Does your little one try to "steal" your food? What’s the one thing they always want from your plate? Tell us below! 👇

🍪 The "Snack Trap": Why your child is skipping dinner... 🥦

We’ve all been there: Your little one won't eat their lunch, so you give them a few biscuits or a chocolate just to "fill their stomach." It feels like the right thing to do, but is it actually hurting their health? 🧐

In today's episode of our Myth vs. Fact series, we’re debunking Myth #8: "My child doesn't eat meals, but snacks keep them full."

The Harsh Truth: 🩺

Appetite Killer: Frequent snacking on "empty calorie" foods (like biscuits and chocolates) significantly reduces their hunger for nutritious, balanced meals.

Nutrition Gap: These snacks aren't recommended or balanced, meaning your child misses out on the essential vitamins they need for growth.

The Cycle: The more they snack, the less they eat at mealtime, leading to a frustrating cycle for parents!

The Doctor’s Tip: 💡
Prioritise mealtime over snack time. If they're hungry, offer a portion of a healthy meal rather than reaching for the biscuit jar.

Are you struggling with a "snack-aholic" at home? Tell us your mealtime challenges in the comments below! 👇
