GCRI Blood Bank Serving Cancer patients all over Gujarat

Gujarat Cancer Research Institute is a state owned Cancer Research Institute in Ahmedabad. It was established in 1972. It is one of the 25 government funded Regional Cancer Centres in India.

The Cancer Civil Hospital in Asarwa, Ahmedabad is a very strong support system for the most needy people in Gujarat. Everyday, many people come from different corners of Gujarat for treatment here. The Cancer department in the Civil Hospital is facing severe shortage of blood. Following are the issues plaguing the blood bank: - Parents of children coming from needy communities frequently fail the healthy individual criteria for blood donation due to weight, Haemoglobin, etc. - People coming from places other than Ahmedabad hardly know anyone from Ahmedabad to help them - Cases like Blood cancer require many bottles of blood which is often not possible to be arranged by a single family - Coming from underprivileged backgrounds, they do not have requisite resources to purchase blood Civil Hospital does not currently have an adequate community support for its blood bank. Hence, I urge my fellows to try and help in the following ways: 1) Donating blood directly to civil hospital 2) If you can arrange for 40+ people willing people in your society, office, college or otherwise, a blood donation camp can be arranged in the area. 3) Respond to emergency cases of WBC/Platelet requirements if asked for as shelf life of these is only 4-7 days. 4) Invite your friends and family to make this community stronger. The procedures used during blood donation are as per standard and the blood donation will directly be for consumption of civil hospital patients. As a first step to solving a larger problem of healthcare issues in underprivileged communities, let us join together and create a strong community.
