Core Activities: Over 800,000 new cancer patients are diagnosed every year in India. Over 500,000 patients die every year from cancer. Number of deaths from cancer is more than combined death rate of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS. Majority of cancers are diagnosed late. Majority of patients are unable to undergo standard treatment (lack of awareness, lack of nearby treatment facilities, inabilit

y to pay for treatment). Most poor patients and many with resources as well, die with months of suffering beyond imagination. This “suffering” is also the main concern in patient’s mind when diagnosed with cancer. “suffering” is at several levels, not just physical pain. Blood diseases like Thalassemia, are rampant in India. About 10,000 children are born each year with thalassemia major. These children need blood transfusion every two to four weeks for rest of their life, with other medicines. They mostly die before age 40, and in poor families they die mostly before age 20. It is expensive to treat and is a silent suffering for whole family, not just the child. And, this disease is almost 100% preventable, as well as curable in few children.

Our philosophy of “Adding Life to Years” and Caring approach of our team remain the same. All services continue to remain free for all patients, including Home care, Outpatient care, and Inpatient care.

Thanks to our generous donors for their unwavering support. Including CSR donors. And so many members of society at large for creating awareness, supporting and guiding us in so many ways. Their support has helped us to grow and reach out to more and more people, most notably Home Care services started about three years ago.

Smt. Sonalben Shah was honoured with the Saraswati Samman Award on 2nd November in Mumbai for her outstanding contribution to social service. The hall, filled with over 400 people, erupted in a standing ovation as she was recognised for her remarkable work at Karunalay, the cancer palliative care centre run by Shyam Oncology Foundation.

In her heartfelt speech, Sonalben shared beautiful life lessons from her journey at Karunalay — about savouring every little joy, valuing health and social support, embracing the spirit of trusteeship, and remembering that everyone has a purpose and every role matters. 💫

Her words touched every heart in the room — a true reminder of how compassion and humility can transform lives. ❤️

Almost two years in the newly constructed building, with much larger number of admissions, and a larger team. Our philosophy of “Adding Life to Years” and Caring approach of our team remain the same. All services continue to remain free for all patients, including Home care, Outpatient care, and Inpatient care (in the new 15 bed unit).

Thanks to our generous donors for their unwavering support. Including CSR donors. And so many members of society at large for creating awareness, supporting and guiding us in so many ways.
