On 9th March 2018, Supreme court passed a verdict on legalising passive euthanasia
The decision was pending since many years despite a large number of petitions for the same.
Dr. Sweta Parikh shared her views on news 18 gujarati regarding the mental status of the caretakers of patients having terminal illness or having incurable chronic conditions and their conflictual thoughts of euthanasia
Euthanasia is an extremely difficult judgement for the caretakers and the treating doctors but if used correctly can be a boon...it maintains the right to life and death as well as the dignity of the dying person
Living will/ advance directive, these terms meant little till now but with the recent verdict, living will has given people the right to die with dignity
