Anjali Mudra (also known as Dhyana meaning Meditation or Calm Heart Medication).
How: Sit on a mat (aasan) in Sukhasana (comfortable/easy pose). Join your hands together with your thumb, index fingers, and palm touching each other. Close your eyes. Sit with your back upright. If you are unable to sit on the mat, please sit on a chair. Relax any tension you feel in your body as your straighten your spine. Lengthen your back slowly from the back of your neck, and relax your chin. If you head tilts a little backward, let it go. Breathe- deeply!
With your eyes closed, focus all your attention and energy on the center of your chest, and inhale and exhale deeply. As you exhale, slowly chant OM. It will feel as if the chant is emerging from your chest.
As you inhale, enjoy the silence around you. As you exhale, continue chanting OM and feel the vibration of the words, opening up your heart, chest, and taking away your stress and tension.
Do this for at least 3-5 minutes every day to feel the difference. If you are unsure of the time once you close your eyes, set a timer before you begin the Anjali Mudra. When the timer sounds, gently place your palms on your eyes. Stay there for a few seconds. Then gradually remove your hands, open your eyes, and place your hands on your knees. Continue breathing normally.
How it helps: The Anjali Mudra means “to salute” and/or “to seal.” This technique enables you to ease tensions, calm your breathing, relax your mind of any stress or tensions, and is also known to be linked to different happy and peaceful emotions for the body. The concentration allows you to cope with challenges and emerge as a happier, content, and positive individual.
