The most powerful weapon against disease isn’t fear, it’s foresight.

Timely screenings help uncover problems before they grow, spread, or become harder to treat.

Early detection gives doctors clarity, patients options, and treatment a stronger chance to succeed.

That’s the real brahmastra of good health.

Recently, we held a “Stroke Free Mehsana” awareness session at Nootan Medical College, Visnagar, reaching multiple talukas across the Mehsana district. The sessions were led by our dedicated Zydus Hospital team and focused on stroke awareness, prevention, and the importance of early intervention.

Honourable Shri Rishikesh Patel, Cabinet Minister, Government of Gujarat, also graced the occasion and enthusiastically shared his views on our mission to spread awareness about stroke. His esteemed presence truly contributed to the event’s success.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from ASHA Workers and THO staff, with 430 attending across both phases—highlighting a strong collective commitment to building a stroke-free Mehsana.

Kudos to our entire team and everyone involved for making this initiative a resounding success.

Sharing a few glimpses from the event…

A 49-year-old patient came to Zydus OPD with complains of severe lower limb pain (vascular claudication) and gangrene of the toes. She consulted Dr. Saketh Rao and Dr. Diyesh Dhadaniya, Vascular Interventional Radiologists. The gangrene was due to the occlusion of her femoral artery, a major blood vessel supplying the lower limb.

The artery was occluded due to atherosclerotic (fatty deposit) plaque buildup and arterial calcification, dangerous and well-known complications of long-standing diabetes that contribute to progressive narrowing of blood vessels and ends up damaging the endothelium thus impairing regular blood flow. If left untreated, the gangrene would have progressed and could have resulted in toe or limb amputation.

Identifying the urgency of her condition, they performed peripheral angiography which showed the exact extent of the blockage. Then, atherectomy was done to debulk the plaque, which helped in immediately restoring blood flow to the affected limb. Angioplasty was then done to widen the artery with a drug coated balloon, and compressing plaque against the vessel wall. This method also reduces the risk of re-narrowing of the vessels and ensures long-lasting patency. Additionally, atherectomy and angioplasty can be used to avoid stenting in selected patients.

She was discharged within 24 hours of the procedure. On follow-up, she reported complete resolution of pain and significant improvement in walking, marking a successful outcome.

Kudos to Dr. Rao and Dr. Dhadaniya for their timely decision-making played a crucial role in salvaging the patient’s limb and preventing amputation.

A17-year-old girl, who was suffering from severe pain in the lower abdomen was rushed to Zydus where she consulted Dr. Mayank Gurjar, Sr. Gastrointestinal & Robotic Surgeon. After evaluation, it was clear that her appendix needed to be removed immediately to prevent rupture and serious infection. While often considered a vestigial or non-essential organ, inflammation of the appendix (known as appendicitis) can quickly become dangerous if left untreated.
The surgery went well and she was discharged the very next day.

Chest pain is often brushed aside as acidity, stress, or mere fatigue. But it can be the body’s early warning sign of something far more serious. Pain or discomfort in the chest, especially if it spreads to the arm or jaw should never be ignored. Acting early can prevent permanent heart damage and save lives.

If chest pain is persistent or unusual for you, don’t wait it out. Seek medical help immediately.

Listening to your body and responding in time can make all the difference.

This week, over 650 students and faculty members came together at Nathibha Arts and Commerce College for an engaging and impactful session on stroke and heart attack preparedness, basic life-saving skills, and mental well-being—an important step toward a healthier Ahmedabad.

What truly stood out was the enthusiasm of young India. There was hardly a moment during the session when a student wasn’t up on their feet, asking questions or sharing thoughts. That’s the spirit of our country.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Principal, Dean, and faculty members for their vision toward holistic student development and for inviting us to lead this health awareness initiative. Kudos to our team for sharing their expertise and insights with the audience.

Building awareness today helps save lives tomorrow.

Acute knee pain can significantly impact your mobility and interfere with your everyday activities.

Knee replacement surgery has been a trusted solution for many years, but advancements in technology like Stryker's Mako SmartRobotics, USFDA-approved, have made recovery easier than ever.

Robotic-assisted knee replacement offers greater precision and improved outcomes, helping you return to an active lifestyle sooner. The key benefits of robotic surgery include:
• Less pain
• Minimal blood loss
• Faster recovery
• Enhanced soft-tissue protection

Robotic-assisted hip replacement surgery offers the same advanced benefits, ensuring better alignment, accuracy, and long-term results.

Think Robotics. Think Zydus.

Lajja, a 24-year-old woman from Navsari, went for dinner at a restaurant. Within 3 days, she developed symptoms like stomach flu and was initially treated as food poisoning. But her condition worsened rapidly, and blood tests showed severe liver damage. The local team contacted Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad for advanced support.

Dr. Himanshu Sharma, Liver Critical Care Specialist, immediately advised urgent transfer via ICU-on-wheels with ventilator support. Unfortunately, she was not ventilated during transit, and by the time she reached Zydus emergency, her condition had progressed to multi-organ failure.

She was diagnosed with Hepatitis A infection complicated by grade 2 hepatic encephalopathy (brain involvement due to liver failure). Repeated vomiting led to aspiration into the lungs, causing severe respiratory failure. She was immediately placed on a ventilator, but her oxygen levels remained critically low, making it necessary to take a high-risk, time-sensitive decision: initiate ECMO, an advanced life support system that temporarily works like an artificial lung.

Managing ECMO in liver failure is extremely challenging because the body is unstable and the risk of bleeding, infection, brain swelling, and sudden deterioration remains high. When her kidneys failed, she required dialysis for the next three days. Every day involved careful decision-making to balance organ support, prevent complications, and give her liver time to recover.

After 18 days on ECMO, her lungs improved, brain swelling reduced, and liver function gradually recovered. With intensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation, she regained strength, movement, and speech. She was discharged after 35 days.

Hepatitis A spreads through contaminated food and water. While many cases are mild, it can sometimes become life-threatening even in young, healthy individuals. Vaccination remains the most reliable protection against Hepatitis A.

Watch this video as Lajja shares her journey and expresses her gratitude to her doctors. Kudos to the medical team.
