Building on our legacy of cardiac care and our aim to advance knowledge, we are organising an Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Ablation Workshop on 31st March & 1st April, featuring 4-5 live AF ablation cases to further our commitment to innovation and better patient outcomes.

A 42-year-old farmer was suffering from persistent rashes and fever, typical symptoms of a generalised drug reaction. When he consulted a nearby clinic, he was referred to Zydus. Here, Dr. Dhwani Shah, Dermatologist, suspected that there might be more to the rashes and prompted him to undergo blood tests. The results revealed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteraemia, a highly resistant organism that is largely unresponsive to commonly used antibiotics. It is very rare to see such a drug eruption and allergic reaction associated with such a highly resistant organism in the blood. This makes the case rare and time sensitive.

This was closely followed up with our microbiologist, Dr. Sarita Nayak, Dr. Nimit Shah, an internal medicine specialist, and the team decided to treat him with a specialized antibiotic that was carefully titrated.

An echocardiogram was also done, given MRSA's well-known affinity with cardiac valves, where it can form vegetations causing endocarditis, a potentially fatal complication. He responded well to treatment, and the rashes and fever gradually subsided over the course of his hospitalisation. He was monitored closely and discharged in a stable condition shortly after.

A persistent, unexplained rash with fever must never be treated empirically with allergy medication and steroids alone, as the temporary benefits from these can mask a dangerous underlying infection. When symptoms persist beyond 5-7 days without any resolution, blood cultures become essential. Indiscriminate antibiotic use also accelerates resistance, delaying overall recovery.

We recently organized “Zycon 2026,” a focused medical conference addressing the growing challenges of head and neck cancer and the complexities involved in its treatment.

Led by renowned oncologists Dr. Pankaj Shah and Dr. Mahesh H. Patel as mentors, along with expert head and neck surgeons, Dr. Siddharth Shah (Organising Chairman), Dr. Dipen Patel, and Dr. Supreet Bhatt, the two-day conference brought together leading minds in oncology. It featured academic sessions, interactive learning modules, student-focused programs, and award-winning paper presentations, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange.

Head and neck cancer remains a major healthcare concern in India, accounting for nearly 30% of all cancer cases, with over two lakh new diagnoses annually. Most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, making treatment more complex, and nearly 40–60% face recurrence within a few years. Addressing these challenges, Zycon 2026 focused on key areas such as recurrence management, post-operative care, salvage surgery, re-irradiation, systemic therapy, and multidisciplinary case discussions—offering insights relevant to everyday clinical practice.

The conference saw participation from over 200 doctors, including senior oncologists, residents, and postgraduate students from across the country. The presence of international experts from the UK, alongside national faculty, enriched discussions with a blend of global and local perspectives.
