Part 1
March is Multiple myeloma awareness month
⭐️What is Multiple myeloma?
⭐️Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called plasma cells. These cells are found in the bone marrow and are responsible for producing antibodies to help fight infections. In multiple myeloma, the plasma cells become abnormal and grow uncontrollably, leading to a buildup of these cells in the bone marrow. This disrupts the production of normal blood cells and can damage bones, kidneys, and other organs.
⭐️The exact cause of multiple myeloma is unknown, but it is more common in older adults, and factors like genetics, radiation exposure, and certain chemical exposures may increase the risk.
⭐️Symptoms can include bone pain, weakness, fatigue, frequent infections, and kidney problems.
⭐️Treatment often involves chemotherapy, targeted therapy, stem cell transplants, and sometimes radiation.
