Thursday 7th April, 2016 is World Health Day.
Dear Friends, the onus is on us to personally take care of our health including myself. Please do care of your lipid profile, especially cholesterol and triglycerides. These have a tendency to shoot up unexpectedly.
Recommended is eating carbs, protein and fat in moderation and doing any form of regular physical.activity for a minimum of 30-45 minutes for at least 3 days a week. Mind you, having too much of carbs like wheat, rice, bread (maida), poha may increase your triglyceride levels. Solution: try not to have roti with rice or vice versa. Have brown rice instead of white rice.

Today, lets' cover the hip joint flexibility:
Just stand up and without any hand support, try to lift and take your left leg sideways - away from the body.
If you are able to do this comfortably and your ROM (Range Of Motion) is near 35 degrees, than pat yourself in the back that you have a normal hip ROM.
If you have difficulty in doing this, repeat the below exercise for 10 -15 counts at least 2 times.

It is important to have a normal hip ROM for balance, poise, stability, walking and running stance and to prevent injury.

Benefits of Yoga and other exercises to a common man :
1. It helps to increase the flexibility and movement of the various joints in the human body. For example;
1) Just try to move your right arm away from the body and note how far you are able to do so (known as arm abduction). Please do not only read this, just sit up and do it.

Commonly in most people, the ROM (Range Of Motion measured in degrees) of the arm is limited.
By doing regular Yoga and other exercises, you are able to significantly increase the ROM of the arm known as arm abduction.
The ideal ROM is 90 - 95 degrees.

(1) If you are having an ideal ROM as described above or near it, than rejoice and better keep up with the good work of doing regular Yoga and other exercises.
(2) If you are having difficulty of achieving it even near the halfway mark, i.e., 45 degrees and having a lot of pain, please visit your doctor.
(3) If you are able to surpass the halfway mark but having difficulty in moving above that range without any undue pain, welcome to the club of doing regular Yoga and other exercises. Just have a word with your fitness trainer before you begin.
