*Understanding genetic testing*

1. Preconception genetic testing: This involves testing prospective parents for genetic conditions before conception to assess the risk of passing on certain genetic disorders to their offspring.

2. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD): PGD is a procedure used during IVF to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities before implantation. It helps to select embryos free from specific genetic diseases.

3. Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT): NIPT is a screening test that analyzes cell-free fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s blood to assess the risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome, in the fetus.

4. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT): PGT is a broader term encompassing both PGD and PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening). PGS screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, whereas PGD focuses on specific genetic conditions.

5.chromosomal analysis:Chromosomal analysis, also known as karyotyping, is a genetic test that examines an individual’s chromosomes for abnormalities. It involves analyzing a sample of cells, typically obtained through blood or tissue biopsy, to identify any numerical or structural abnormalities in the chromosomes. This test can detect conditions such as Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, and Klinefelter syndrome, as well as chromosomal rearrangements like translocations and deletions. Chromosomal analysis is often used in prenatal diagnosis, infertility testing, and the evaluation of developmental delays or birth defects.
