Breast engorgement happens when the breasts become too full of milk, making them feel swollen, hard, and sore. This usually occurs in breastfeeding moms, especially in the first few days after birth when milk starts coming in. It can happen if you miss a feeding, the baby isn’t nursing well, or when weaning. To feel better, you can breastfeed frequently or hand express often. If not managed, it could lead to blocked milk ducts or an infection called mastitis. Taking care of it early helps with comfort and successful breastfeeding.
