HIP AVASCULAR NECROSIS
Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of the Hip — also known as osteonecrosis of the femoral head — is a condition where the blood supply to the femoral head (ball of the hip joint) is disrupted, leading to bone tissue death, collapse of the joint surface, and eventually arthritis if untreated.
There are different Causes of AVN of the Hip
Common causes are:
Trauma (fracture/dislocation of hips), Steroid use (prolonged or high dose), Alcohol abuse, Sickle cell disease, Autoimmune conditions, Radiation therapy, Idiopathic (unknown cause).
Symptoms
Groin pain (early sign), Hip stiffness or limp, Pain during movement or weight-bearing
Limited range of motion, Late-stage: persistent pain even at rest
Early diagnosis and treatment can preserve the hip joint.
Delayed treatment often leads to joint collapse and the need for hip replacement.
