Attending the IACTSCON 2026 conference in Mumbai was a remarkable experience. I had the opportunity to deliver four talks and present one e-poster, engaging in great academic deliberation throughout the event.

The venue, Nita Dhirubhai Ambani Cultural Center in BKC, was exceptional, offering outstanding hospitality. One of the highlights was the innovative concept of a silent conference, where participants used headphones for an immersive experience.

Additionally, the plenary lecture by Mr. Mohandas Pia was insightful and added significant value to the conference. Overall, this event truly represented a next-level conference experience.

Avoid Obesity — Protect Your Heart

Obesity is one of the strongest and most preventable risk factors for heart disease.

Excess body fat — especially around the abdomen — puts continuous strain on the heart. It increases blood pressure, raises bad cholesterol (LDL), lowers good cholesterol (HDL), and leads to insulin resistance, which can cause diabetes. Together, these changes significantly increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.

Obesity also promotes inflammation in the body, accelerates artery blockage, worsens breathing during sleep (sleep apnea), and reduces physical stamina — forcing the heart to work harder even during routine activities.

The good news is that even a modest weight loss of 5–10% can greatly improve blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol, and overall heart function.

How to prevent obesity:

Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins

Avoid excess sugar, fried foods, and processed snacks

Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily

Control portion sizes

Sleep 7–8 hours regularly

Monitor weight and waist circumference

Obesity develops slowly — but its damage is silent and progressive.

Maintain a healthy weight not for appearance, but for a stronger heart, better energy, and longer life.

Daily exercise is one of the strongest medicines for a healthy heart.

Regular physical activity helps control weight, lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, regulate blood sugar, reduce stress, and strengthen the heart muscle.

Even 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day — such as walking, cycling, or yoga — can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.

Move every day.
Stay active.
Protect your heart.

The Divine Rhythm: Where Divinity Meets Surgery

On Mahashivratri, we celebrate Lord Shiva—the Destroyer of evil and the Transformer of the universe. But in the sterile silence of the operating theatre, I see a reflection of the Cosmic Dancer in the hands of a Cardiac Transplant Surgeon.

Consider the parallels:

The Destroyer (Rudra):
Just as Shiva destroys the old to make way for the new, a transplant surgeon must make the ultimate incision. They must "destroy" the connection to the failing, diseased heart. They remove what no longer serves life to prepare the vessel for renewal.

The Preserver:
Shiva holds the poison in his throat to save the world. Similarly, a surgeon absorbs the immense pressure, the long hours, and the critical risks to preserve a patient's existence.

The Creator:
The moment the clamp is released and the donor heart—a new engine of life—begins to beat, it is nothing short of creation. The surgeon grants a "second birth" (Dwija) to the patient, restoring the Prana (life force).

To the hands that heal and the hearts that beat—Happy Mahashivratri. May the cosmic rhythm guide us all.

Regular monitoring of your weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol is essential for protecting your heart.

Many heart problems develop silently without symptoms. Keeping these numbers under control helps detect risks early, prevents complications, and allows timely treatment.

Know your numbers.
Track them regularly.
Act early.

Small steps today can prevent major heart problems tomorrow.
