Here are some ways to relieve neck pain:
Apply heat or cold
Use ice for the first 48–72 hours, then use heat. Apply heat with a heating pad, warm shower, or hot compress for 15 minutes every few hours. Apply cold with an ice pack or bag of frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel for 15 minutes every few hours.
Take over-the-counter pain relievers
Use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil), or naproxen (Aleve), or acetaminophen (Tylenol). These can help with mild to moderate pain, but shouldn't be used for more than a few days.
Do neck exercises
Once the worst of the pain lessens, you can start gentle stretching, including neck rolls and shoulder rolls. You can also try tilting, bending, and rotating your neck.
Improve your posture
Pay attention to how you hold your head throughout the day, especially when using your phone or computer. Keep your back straight, arms level to your desk, and feet flat on the floor. Make sure your computer is at eye level so you don't have to crane your neck.
