KARMA SUTRA: Why one suffers despite being good

Nothing hurts more than watching the good-hearted suffer and the mean flourish. It shakes up our very foundation of the virtues of being good.

This antithesis of the ‘victory of evil over good’ dissuades us from walking the path of good. Like Mahabharat’s Draupadi we lament – “When I see noble, moral and modest persons harassed in this way and ignoble flourishing and happy, I stagger with wonder. I can only condemn the Placer, who allows such outrage”.
(The Difficulty of Being Good – Gurcharan Das)

Being good has its own rewards, but a person who is made up of contaminations, cannot really be expected to be that magnanimous. Sooner or later, it does seem unfair to be doing good and yet suffering and witness evil thriving. Once again, the Theory of Karma comes to our rescue.

The karmic account records every action and churns out rewards or punishment in accordance with the actions so performed. When we see the evil flourishing, we ought to know that they are only encashing on their past account of good deeds.

What they know not is that tomorrow is another day. And today’s actions are tomorrow’s reality. When the consequences of today’s action catch up with them, the grey tomorrow will stare into their faces. We can feign ignorance to the law of karma, but it does not ignore us, for better or for worse.

Likewise, in spite of unfavourable circumstances, if we continue to tread the path of good, we are sure to be rewarded. The karmic wheel may grind slowly but surely. Let us not use evil people’s life as an example for forsaking good. Let us continue to add good deeds to our individual karmic account. What others do is their equation. Let us have faith in the working of karma, it works with mechanical precision.

The moral of the stories will continue to be the “victory of good over evil” because there is a law higher than the law of the land and that is the law of karma.

VOW OF SAI

We should help even those who have harmed us. This is the vow of Sai. No matter if some people criticise or ridicule Me or even try to harm Me, I will always look at them with kindness. I have declared: My life is My message. How many people follow the path shown by Me? If you follow in My footsteps, no harm will ever touch you.

A bird sits on a tiny twig, in perfect confidence! Where does it get the confidence from? Not
from the twig; but, from the wings which can take it aloft at the slightest sign of danger. The
twig is Prakrithi (objective world) Sit on it lightly, gaily, confidently; but, rely more on the
wings, namely the Grace of the Lord who can lift you aloft, away from Prakrithi at the slightest
premonition of danger. The twig is not very reliable but, the wings are always there to save you.

What is the Significance and main teaching of Easwaramma Day?

May 6th was celebrated as Easwaramma day. Let's read a Divine Discourse excerpt from Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 33

" Today we are celebrating Easwaramma Day to propagate the glory of motherhood. The world is sustained by the prayers of mothers. A WOMANS PRAYER IS MORE POWERFUL THAN A THOUSAND PRAYERS OF MEN because women are pure and tender-hearted. NEVER CAUSE DISPLEASURE TO YOUR MOTHER. Never hurt her feelings. Then GOD WILL HELP YOU IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS. One calls ones country motherland and not fatherland. Thus, mother is given an exalted position in the world. Consider your country as your own mother and work for its progress. Under any circumstances, DO NOT CAUSE ANY HARM TO YOUR MOTHER AND MOTHERLAND. This is the significance and main teaching of todays celebration."

When the good are associated with the wicked and do not oppose them, they share the responsibility for the deeds of the evil doers. The Divine destroys even those who either do not oppose or remain passive while injustice and wrong doing are perpetrated.

SAI - THE DIVINE HUMORIST... when Swami "April fooled" His students

Once Baba was to reach Bangalore a few days after the Shivarathri festival at Puttaparthi, as was His wont. But even after a week or ten days He did not move. Students at Bangalore were disappointed at the delay and they started imagining about possible reasons. But towards the end of March news reached them that Swami was shortly expected there. Their joy had no bounds. The usual preparations were carried out briskly for receiving the Lord. Baba came. The students sang and did Aarathi. He received it with no smile or talk. The students were flabbergasted. Each one started a vigorous and thorough search of his heart. None could find any reason. Swami gave darshan to the devotees and returned to His residence with head down as if to avoid the students standing in a row on either side. Their prayer for reason was unanswered. There was gloom in the campus. They apologised for any error unknowingly committed. No effect. Prayer turned into sobs and tears. The next day He gave darshan and returned as usual. But this time the students were determined and they encircled Him and cried for Pardon. Nothing happened. He looked only downward. A few seconds passed in grave silence. Then He like a great actor just mumbled "April Fool". There was a spurt of radiant laughter, which was shared with love by Swami as well. What a drama! The Divine actor cm director wanted to open the floodgates of joy to His ever loved dearest children, His 'only property'.

The problems faced by old people in our society (share it)

One wonders whether the phrase "May you live to a ripe old age" is a blessing or a curse. Old age cannot be avoided. It is a phase of life, which will arrive and stay till death takes its toll. Problems of old age come in two forms: emotional and physical. Many studies have proved that the two are actually interconnected. No precautionary measures can avoid these problems; senior citizens just have to face them bravely.
Old age is feared in recent times; however. This was not the case in the olden times. In the good old days, life was not so complicated and family values were given more importance. Hence, the older generations held a very important position in the family tree and in society. They were the epitomes of wisdom. The younger ones benefited from their profound knowledge and experiences.
The scenario is changing nowadays with senior citizens being considered as "non-productive" and. They are thought to be a social and economic burden. In urban areas, the entire responsibility is on the male child with whom the aging parent resides. Due to the nuclear family system, the aged people tend to feel neglected as all the others remain busy with their own schedule. The experiences of the old are considered primitive in this advanced ‘techno’ world and no one wants to pay heed to what they have to say.
Many are forced to sell off their property as a result of some dispute within the family or for their children’s career, making them solely dependent on their children later. After a certain age, their health starts deteriorating and their mental faculties begin to diminish. Sometimes, these people cannot recognize their own family members. In such situations, these people are considered to be a burden and are thrown out.
Those who can afford, try to reduce their guilt by sending their old parents to the home for the aged. But seldom do they realize that although their parents or grandparents may get physical care in these institutions, their emotional needs of affection and love by their own near and dear ones remain unfulfilled. What the youngsters of today fail to realize is that they will get old too some day and may have to meet a similar fate, because history is bound to repeat itself and a person reaps what he sows.
