The embryological gut tube divides into the foregut, midgut, and hindgut, each forming specific adult organs:
the foregut gives rise to the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and upper duodenum;
the midgut forms the distal duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, appendix, ascending colon, and most of the transverse colon;
and the hindgut develops into the rest of the colon (descending, sigmoid), re**um, and upper a**l ca**l, defined by their respective arterial blood supplies (celiac, superior mesenteric, inferior mesenteric arteries).

(up to ampulla of Vater)

Midgut Derivatives (Superior Mesenteric Artery Supply

Hindgut Derivatives (Inferior Mesenteric Artery Supply)
