Reflections on a Milestone Tenure with the IAS
I am honored to have completed my tenure as an Executive Committee (EC) member of the Indian Arthroscopy Society. When I stepped into this role, my primary goal was to democratize surgical academics across India. Through the IASONE programs—working alongside the President and my esteemed colleagues—we were able to bring high-level academic training to every corner of the nation.
As the new team takes the reins, the launch of the IAS-JOPP (Joint Preservation Programme) ensures that this commitment to lifelong learning and surgical excellence continues.
Academic Highlights & Clinical Insights
During our most recent IAS JOPP meeting held in Chennai, I had the privilege of:
Presenting on HTO Complications: I shared insights on the "one ounce of knowledge" that makes all the difference—High Tibial Osteotomy. Many complications arise from a lack of rigorous preoperative planning. I cannot emphasize enough: thorough planning is the foundation of patient satisfaction.
Moderating Live Surgery: It was a pleasure to moderate alongside Dr. Sundarrajan and Dr. Clement, facilitating a deep dive into real-time surgical techniques.
Winning the Quiz: Taking home the win in Dr. Clement’s quiz was truly the icing on the cake!
My sincere thanks to the IAS and Dr. Pradeep for the invitation to contribute to such a prestigious gathering.

Joint preservation surgery and osteotomy were always disregarded. But with the advent of modern osteotomy techniques and better planning software, it has a significant role in preserving our natural joints.

Convincing my senior and junior orthopaedic colleagues on double-level osteotomy in a severely deformed leg with ligament deficiency at the Master case series 5 was a matter of pride. With lots of evidence speaking in favour of joint preservation, it is now a procedure of choice for young arthritic knees.

Thanks to the organising team, Dr Raju Eashwaran, Dr Sekhar Srivastav, Dr Amite Pankaj, Dr Atul Mishra, Dr Himanshu Gupta, Dr Ankit Varshney, and Dr Naman Goel for allowing us to discuss on the important topic.

Wrong diagnosis II Wrong treatment

In clinical practice, reading just the MRI report may mislead one to a wrong diagnosis, hence a wrong treatment or missed diagnosis.

To recaptivate the lost art of clinical examination, it is a pride to feature in “Kerala journal of orthopaedics” as an author to article on “clinical assessment of PCL deficient knee” which is often neglected or misdiagnosed as an ACL deficient knee. A must-read for post graduates to practicing surgeons so as not to miss PCL injuries.

Are you suffering from shoulder pain and weakness?

Here’s a story of senior physician of the city Dr Kanwarjit Singh who also had shoulder pain which affected his activities of daily living. After consulting us (Dr IDee) , he was diagnosed with tendon tear or rotator cuff tear in his right shoulder.

Instead of a big cuts or incisions, he underwent a small cut (Key hole) surgery with a tiny camera (Arthroscopic surgery) to repair his shoulder muscle tear. Within 2 days, he was home, and physiotherapy (rehab) started the very next day. Slowly, he was able to get back to seeing his patients again.

A few months later, another fall injured his other (Left) shoulder. Taking a cue from his past experience with his recovery on his right shoulder, Once again, he trusted us and underwent another key hole tendon repair surgery (Arthroscopic cuff repair).

Today at 1 year of surgery on right shoulder and 4 months on his left shoulder, he now feels strong in both shoulders and is very happy with the treatment.

The team approach at Amandeep Medicity involving surgeon ,nursing care and the physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in the recovery of the patient.

Appreciation from a senior physician and colleague after his rotator cuff surgery is a matter of pride in itself.

It is an honour to be a part of the elite group of knee surgeons of India, where joint preservation strategies, along with other ligamentous injuries, were discussed in detail, adding to the existing knowledge of knee surgery.

I participated in it as faculty and delivered a talk on meniscus root repair and realignment osteotomy (HTO) and how to do these two procedures in a single sitting without compromising the effect of one over the other.

Big thanks to Dr Parag Sancheti, Dr Sachin Tapasvi, and the entire SKICON team for making me part of the esteemed meeting.

AIIMS Bathinda is the premier institute of North India. I was honoured to participate in the Bathinda Shoulder Course 2025. Wherein, I, along with my team, performed a live surgical demonstration of Arthroscopic bone block surgery for recurring shoulder dislocation. A procedure not performed by many. It is done when someone's shoulder dislocates over number of times and there is bone loss. This procedure is a boon for patients with subcritical bone loss.

Delivering talks on complex shoulder procedures like lower trapezius tendon transfer and superior capsular reconstruction in massive irreparable cuff tears is a matter of pride in itself. Also spoke on arthroscopic transosseous cuff repair. This technique is still a “gold standard” for cuff repairs and also helps in reducing the surgical cost of repairs.

Congratulations to Bathinda Orthopaedic Association, especially Dr Tarun Goyal, Dr Ajay Gupta and Dr Vivek Bansal, for pulling out a great show year after year.

Special thanks to my surgical assistants, Mr Prabhbir Singh and Mr Rupinder, for travelling with me and helping to ease things out during surgery.

The largest congregation of arthroscopic surgeons of India, IASCON 2025, concluded as a landmark event in Goa last week. There was a showcase of 25+ LIVE surgeries and multiple high-level academic discussions apart from post-lecture relaxation with a live music concert by well-renowned Shaan and motivational, inspiring talks by Sania Mirza and Neeraj Chopra.

For me, it was an honour to attend the meeting as part of the governing council of the Indian Arthroscopy Society (IAS) along with the other energetic colleagues of the governing council. It was a matter of pride to deliver talks and perform LIVE surgery on the complex procedure of PLC reconstruction (as per NMC guidelines) in front of an elite gathering of arthroscopy surgeons. My one ounce of contributions were on:

- ACLR in the athletic population with gold standard BPTB graft

- Lower trapezius tendon transfer

- Medial meniscus root repair

- Live surgery on anatomic PLC reconstruction

Meeting my mentor, Dr David Rajan made my visit to Goa more fruitful.

Hats off to Dr Samir Sheikh and the entire organising team for a fantastic organisation, and thanks for letting me be part of the wonderful event.

It is a matter of pride and honour to perform a LIVE surgical demonstration (as per NMC guidelines) on arthroscopic ACLR + Meniscus repair at India’s premier Sports Injury Centre, New Delhi in recently concluded Sports Surgery Conclave 2025.

As strong proponent of meniscus repair and its significant function the philosophy of meniscus repair is very well accepted in prolonging the life of knee.

The academic meeting was amalgamation of great academics and was well perceived by the delegates.

Teaming up with my friend Dr Siddharth Aggarwal for exchange of ideas is icing on the cake. I would thank Dr Deepak Joshi, Dr Skand Sinha, Dr Jhujhar Singh and team at SIC for organising this wonderful meeting. Heartfelt thanks to our surgical assistants Mr Prabhbir Singh and Mr Baljinder who travelled all the way from Punjab with us to perform surgery in hassle-free manner.

Looking forward to many more of these kinds of meetings in this part of India.

Being a part of Bengaluru arthroscopy (BAC) course is a matter of pride in itself.

I’m happy to share that I participated in 3rd edition of BAC which concluded recently. Wherein I delivered a talk on
- Locked posterior dislocation of shoulder
- Portal placement in cuff repair
- Double row cuff repair
And moderated a live surgery on arthroscopic bankart repair.

It was a pure academic extravaganza . The enthusiasm of the delegates could be appreciated from the full halls from morning to evening. Even in the sunset masterclasses there was hardly any place to sit. This indicated the zeal to learn and master the art of arthroscopy.

I congratulate Dr Chirag Thonse who organised such a beautifully planned meeting.Looking forward to many more.
