Coronary artery disease can present as 1. Chest pain 2. Breathlessness on exertion 3. Heart Attack 4. Blocked arteries seen on angiography 5. Reduced EF ejection fraction seen on echo. The conventional treatment so far was 1. Bypass surgery 2. Stents or Angioplasty. Both these modalities are far from perfect. Stents can get re blocked in a hurry, have no benefit in stable angina, cost a lot, and can actually cause more harm than good.Bypass surgery is a traumatic, dangerous surgery having a death rate of 2 to 10% and a serious complication rate of 15 to 30%.
