Constipation is a common problem in children, but there are things you can do to help prevent it.
➡️Offer your child plenty of high-fiber foods. Fiber helps to add bulk to stool and keeps things moving smoothly through the digestive system.
Good sources of fiber include fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole-grain cereals and breads.
➡️Make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids.
Water is the best beverage for constipation prevention.
Aim for your child to drink water as recommened for the age and weight of the child throughout the day. For example, A 2 years old 10 kg child needs to drink 1 litre of water in the day or 5 full regular size glasses of water in 24 hours.
➡️Promote physical activity. Regular exercise helps to stimulate the bowels and keep things moving.
➡️Create a toilet routine.
Set a fixed time in morning after waking up for your child to sit on the toilet even if they dont feel the urge to have a bowel movement or
Set aside time after meals.
This can help to train the bowels to have a regular schedule.
➡️Remind your child to heed nature's call.
Some children get so wrapped up in play that they ignore the urge to have a bowel movement. If such delays occur often, they can contribute to constipation.
➡️Be supportive.
Constipation can be frustrating for children. Avoid scolding your child if they are constipated. Instead, be patient and offer support.
