Saint Lawrence School Motto of the School - Love in Service

http://goo.gl/maps/IU4YS He was a mathematics teacher himself. He was canonized in 2003.

Saint Lawrence School was established and is administered by the Society of the Divine Word (S.V.D. – Societas Verbi Divini) popularly known as the Divine Word Missionaries, an international Congregation of the Roman Catholic Church, well known for its noble and humanitarian works like education, human welfare , dispensaries and village health etc., promoting cooperation and human solidarity. Saint Arnold Janssen, who was born on November 5, 1837 in Goch, Germany on the Lower Rhein and died on January 15, 1909, started this society. This society is supported by the generous contribution of persons who appreciate their work and who like to better the lives of the less privileged. Saint Lawrence, the school patron saint, was an Archdeacon during the time of Pope Sixtus. After the martyrdom of Pope Sixtus, the Roman Emperor Valerian ordered Lawrence to hand over the treasures of the church to the emperor. But Lawrence sold them all for the benefit of the poor and presented the poor as the true treasures of the church. This infuriated the emperor and he ordered Deacon Lawrence to be arrested and killed by being slowly roasted on a gridiron. Hence he is declared the patron saint of the poor. THE AIM OF THE SCHOOL-

The aim of Saint Lawrence School is the education of the Catholic Community around and extends its services to members of other communities as well to the extent possible. The school aims at the formation of intelligent and morally sound, sensitive youths ready to take up their place in the world. While the school stands for academic excellence and character formation, its ultimate aim is the integral development of each individual person based on the love of God and the service to man with a view of training citizens remarkable for all round development and sincere commitment to God and humanity. To effect this end the educational experience and dedication of the SVD Fathers and Staff is to be combined with the cooperation of parents, and the generosity, idealism and pliableness of the youth. The Society runs English Medium schools at the request of different parents who feel the need for English Medium Education. These mainly cater to the better class (financially) who cannot otherwise send their children to vernacular schools due to transferable jobs. We expect the parents to meet the entire expense of education themselves as the state government or other agencies do not give any financial help to us. Therefore we expect generous and whole-hearted contribution form the parents, and the fee levied will be to meet the salary of the staff and other running expenses of the school. Saint Lawrence School prepares the students for the ICSE and ISC Examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi, which is internationally recognized for its excellence. This high standard has been maintained in the school over the years. Its product is a student who not only has a fine knowledge in the required subjects, but also has developed the ability to reason clearly and accurately. The syllabus of the Indian School Certificate (ISC) at the end of Class XII Examination is the same as for the Senior Cambridge Examination. The certificate has been accepted by the Indian Universities for the entrance to the 3 year Degree Course where as the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ICSE) is an examination conducted at the end of class X and is recognized by the Universities as equivalent to Matriculation or School Leaving Certificate examination.

School life is reminiscent of wild pranks, homework, and detention. However, an important aspect of school life was our relationship with teachers. We have had our share of lovable and hate-worthy teachers. Some teachers inspired us while some brought out our wicked side. I often wonder about teachers who educated famous people such as Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and the like. Were these teachers specially qualified to inspire their students to achieve fame and success? Or were these teachers just plain lucky to have exceptionally talented students? Do some teachers have the rare quality of turning dust into gold? The answer may not be easy to find.Saint Lawrence School Students wishes their teachers- A very Happy Teachers Day!
