What is a healthy diet for people with HIV?

In general, the basics of a healthy diet are the same for everyone, including people with HIV. Some general recommendations include:

1. Eating a variety of foods from the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy.
2. Eating the right amount of food (measured in calories) to maintain a healthy weight.
3. Choosing foods low in saturated fat, sodium (salt), and added sugars.

When you live with HIV, it’s important to do your best to take care of yourself. This includes eating well, being active, having solid social support, and managing stress.

1. Get treatment (and stick with it)
2. Eat a nutritious diet
3. Exercise regularly
4. Manage your stress
5. Connect with others
6. Get required vaccines
7. Avoid smoking
8. If you drink alcohol,drink in moderation
9. Sleep well
