PCOS isn’t just hormonal — lifestyle plays a major role.
A large 2022 meta-analysis of nearly 40,000 women found that those with PCOS consistently had poorer diet quality, lower physical activity, and key nutrient deficiencies. They consumed fewer grains, fruits, and vegetables, and had lower levels of magnesium, zinc, and folic acid — all essential for hormone balance, egg health, and metabolism.
Women with PCOS were also more sedentary and had higher intake of cholesterol and iron. These lifestyle patterns worsen insulin resistance, affect ovulation, and intensify symptoms like weight gain, fatigue, acne, and irregular periods.
The takeaway?
Early lifestyle changes aren’t optional — they’re essential. Improving diet quality, choosing whole foods, boosting micronutrients, and staying active can significantly change the course of PCOS.
