Unfortunate Blunt trauma leading to a disfigured lower lid marginal laceration in a young boy of 19 years age. Lid Repair was done to correct it. Patient is doing well.

Repairing these type of lid lacerations is tricky as one needs to keep in consideration about the perfect anatomical apposition of lid margin and prevent post-operative lid margin notching.

( ) is a common condition that’s usually diagnosed before age 20. It affects your distance vision β€” you can see objects that are near, but you have trouble viewing objects that are farther away like grocery store aisle markers or road signs. Myopia treatments include glasses, contact lenses or surgery.

affects an estimated 5% of preschoolers, 9% of school-aged children, and 30% of adolescents.

There's no cure for , but there are treatments that can help slow its progression. These include:

Atropine eye drops (low strength)

Peripheral defocus contact lenses

Limiting screen time

Encouraging outdoor play

Scheduling regular eye exams.

A pediatric eye doctor or optometrist can diagnose ( ) in children with an eye exam that includes:

Visual acuity test: Measures vision at various distances

Refraction test: Determines the correct prescription for glasses

Slit-lamp exam: Assesses the health of the eyes

Dilating the eyes: Helps the doctor find the right glasses prescription

Asking about symptoms: The doctor will ask about any symptoms your child is experiencing

It's recommended to have a child's first eye exam before age 1, and another before kindergarten if there are no obvious eye problems. If your child has family members with vision issues, it's even more important to get their eyes checked early.

can come in many forms.

Recently we had a 19 year youngster with steroid induced secondary posterior subcapsular cataract who got operated under topical anaesthesia.

On the same day, we had the good fortune to restore sight of a nonagenarian (97 years) gentleman who was suffering from age-related mature senile cataract.

It was amazing to watch their post-operative visual recovery and recovery of their self-esteem and confidence.

Loss of vision due to cataract can impede socioeconomic wellbeing of everyone, age being no bar.
