Do you use Retinol as part of your night time routine?

Dermatologists recommend Retinol to help your skin in various ways. What is the ideal age to start adding Retinol to your routine? Staring Retinol in your mid 20s is a great start.

Here are some of the benefits of Retinol.

1. It is a vitamin A derivative & it increases skin cells production (proliferation)

2. It exfoliates skin & helps in increasing collagen production which helps in fine lines & wrinkle formation.

3. It unclogs pores & prevents open pore formation.

4. Delays fine-line formation, wrinkles, prevents open pores.

5. It is one of the best anti-aging molecules.

One of the best ways to use Retinol is to moisturise your face before and after applying the product. The sandwich method will help minimise side effects and other issues.

Side effects: redness, peeling of skin, itching. With consistent use, your will eventually see great results.

Caution:Should be strictly avoided by pregnant & lactating women

One of the most common myths in skincare is the belief that applying toothpaste to your acne will help it heal faster.

This is far from the truth. Applying toothpaste to your acne can create severe damage to your skin and cause negative long term effects.

It is always better to visit your dermatologist to heal acne and other skincare issues.

In this post, Dr. Haritha recommends some really effective Vitamin C products for your skin.

Why do dermatologists highly recommend adding vitamin C to your skincare routine?

Some of the benefits of Vitamin C are listed below:

1. They are suitable for most skin types

MOISTURISERS !

In this video, Dr. Haritha recommends 4 really amazing moisturisers for Acne prone skin.

Moisturisers are heavily neglected in many academic discussions BUT very essential in regular and daily skin care routines. Here’s why :

1. Moisturisers smoothen the skin surface by flattening the “ valleys “ between skin contour ridges

2. They reduce inflammatory action

3. They reduce itchy sensations ( anti pruritic action )

4. They reduce photo damage ( they prevent sun allergies )

5. They improve quality of life

6. They Enable speedy recovery of wound healing

What are some of the specifics and differences concerning face and body moisturisers?

Face moisturisers should be non greasy, non comedogenic ( black / white head formation ) and ideally - fragrance free

Molecules like Propylene Glycol and Hyaluronic Acid should be part of the composition of the Moisturisers for use on the face

Body moisturisers should contain Squalene , Ceramides , certain Butters ( cocoa , shea , etc - keep the skin hydrated for longer ) and Urea ( helps in controlling Eczematous conditions )

Body moisturisers tend to be very greasy and tend to lead to Black / White head ( Comedone ) formation by blocking pores. That’s why Face and Body Moisturisers, need to be chosen separately.

It’s always best to consult with your dermatologist before you add any moisturiser into your routine.
