Collateral damage for any medical treatment is known fact. One such description is this...
Varicocele..is enlarged testicular veins draining the te**is, caused by defective one-way valves. They bring about 1. Testicular pain' 2. Semen parameters abnormality.
No symptoms...no treatment.. usual rule.
Various techniques available for treatment.. one type is angio-embolise the enlarged veins with metallic coils. Migration of the coil is a known complication. The below CT scan and X-ray shows the coils at a higher level ( instead of its position, in the pelvis). However the treatment made his testicular pain disappear and became the father of twin babies.
A very rare complication of the coil inducing inflammation of the adjacent ureter and blocking the kidneys.. which required a corrective surgery of pyeloplasty.

Offering the best healthcare that restores hope and happiness: A 50-year-old patient came to Burjeel Royal Hospital Al Ain to see Dr Nandakishore - Specialist Urology for a second opinion. He had been diagnosed with a stone in his left lower ureter (the tube carrying urine) at another hospital and underwent a kidney stone removal surgery, where the urologist detected a mass that turned out to be a high-grade tumor in the lower ureter.
The patient was advised removal of the complete kidney and ureter, so he came to us. We offered him a kidney-preserving partial ureter removal surgery, as the tumor was a short-segment lower ureteric mass.
Dr Nandakishore did a laparoscopic removal of the left lower ureter with a reconstruction of a new pipe for the lost portion, with a stent, and he was discharged on Day 5. His catheter was removed after a cystogram (X-ray to see if the ureter and bladder healing was complete).
Our minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery ensured he left a happy, tumor-free man with his kidney intact.
