This is one of my favourite pictures from college days at SDM, Hassan. I don't remember the occasion, but I remember the feeling of joy and satisfaction of completing something very important. Those weren't the days of clicking and sharing, those were the days of huddling and caring. We made memories in our minds and hearts.

We were an all girls department (OBG in Ayurveda in 2010, so! ). We spoke a lot, fought a lot, taught lot and learnt quite a lot too. We were always on our toes, getting work done, chasing our teachers and sometimes running away from them. We carried patient information in our brains - 24*7 and ran around like freaks, with plates in our bags and worn out aprons for style. Our support system was made up of tiny note books and of course, each other. Our fashion forever was uptied buns, coloured pen marks, measuring tapes, stheth and ever vibrating phones. There were presentations, anxious patients and cases all day, everyday, but I don't remember being tired! That is when I truly realised what passion meant.

Those days seemed hard then, but looking back, it made us who we are now. I will always remember those girls, the ones who have influenced me in so many ways. From teaching kannada to preparing me for any difficulty, there was so much to learn.
Hostel life is another chapter but this one, my department, is truly special.

This is for my students who asked me how our post graduate days were.
Tough but worth every moment.
Just like it should be!

FOMO is the word.

1. Most adults don't know what they are doing with their proteins and what protein powder is supposed to be doing to them. A lot of it is misunderstood.
2. Children are constantly pressurised by social media and peers. They think everything they see is related to them.

So what you see and what you hear is not necessarily what you should be doing. As parents, in such scenarios, confusion in expected. But don't worry. The noises will fade off.

1. Make sure your child's gut is sorted. Attend to cramps, colic, constipation, diarrhoea, foul smelling farts and food poisoning episodes.
2. Actively cut out packaged food. Anything that can hamper gut health must be regulated strictly.
3. Ensure timely meals and completion of digestion of previous meal. (Do you know the signs to look out for?)
4. Plan meals ahead of time. Include all food groups and focus on variety in atleast one meal.
5. Encourage respect for food and educate about value of traditional food.

☝🏻The above is necessary to follow only if you are interested in improving protein absorption through whole foods.
Send to those who think may benefit!

Live wisely,
Heal everyday.

Baaki all Bakwas.

In case of breastfeeding mothers, the relationship between the mother's food intake (in terms of nutrition, taste, style of eating) and the infant's gut health is linear.

Breast milk nourishes the child's physical and emotional well being. When the mother falls sick, the child is affected. When the mother feels uncomfortable, the child knows. When the food doesn't suit the mother, it doesn't suit the child. It is clear as it is.

While it may not be the only factor, it is one of the major factors that influences infant gut microbiome. So it is always best to reserve that short period of time for ideal eating practices, in the best interest of mother and baby.

Don't trust anyone who says otherwise.

Bringing back life to the living Earth. ⠀

Monsoon has always had a significant impact on the economical, agricultural and socio-cultural life of people in India. Rituals, prayers, festivities and traditional events revolve around the monsoon. It's a phenomenon that binds people through joy as well as through the experience of being human. ⠀
Ayurveda takes the monsoon season very seriously. In the south of India it extends over 2 seasons, the Pravrt and the Varsha Rtu. This is due to the subtle interaction of the geographical factors i.e. mountains and the winds. This period is taken out for rejuvenation and relaxation; prayer and fasting; observance and meditation. The Agni (digestive fire or metabolism) is low and human strength (physical and mental) is decreased along with compromise in immunity.

This is the time of Karkidaka kanji, Bali, Naga Panchami , Kizhi, Basti, physical rest and a lot of introspection. The goal is to help the body cleanse, strengthen and prepare for the year to come. Adversities are recognised as nature's design to retreat with humility.

Get ready to receive all good things in the best of physical, mental and spiritual health.⠀
That's what this rtucharya (seasonal regimen) is all about.⠀

It's raining!⠀

This whole idea of ageing as a mere helpless passage of time is still alien to me. When did we become this scared of life?

In a world where life expectancy is flourishing, understanding how to embrace and manage aging is crucial, not just for individual health, but for the fabric of society itself.

Ayurveda always had this agenda as its primary goal. It is impressive how every core practice has aimed at empowering us to create a body strong enough to sail through adversities, including aging. Unlike conventional medicine that stops with symptomatic relief, Ayurveda seeks out to address lifestyle issues and w**d out the root cause while creating a sustainable pattern of existence.

The most common misconception?

To wait for the onset of aging to begin working towards it.
Instead,
1. Start young
2. Make self care part of everyday life
3. Make it easy to implement
4. Curate it into a habit
5. Make it a family ritual

Educate children, and do what is necessary to ensure that everyone you love gets the opportunity and privilege to enter into healthy old age.

This is what ageing in Ayurveda is all about.
It is about foreseeing and preparing.
Some may call it a mode of preventive healthcare, but the practices are directed not only to prevent sickness, but also in promoting health through events of sickness.
That's a lot more work than just hygiene or massage. It is about protocols that help us brace for impact with every single resource that we have access to.

Aging cannot be prevented. There are many snippets that have taught us this fact time and again. And the same instances have also helped us realize that healthy aging is 💯 not a myth.

So let's stop running and embrace aging with the grace that it deserves.

It's hormonal, but it's not the same.

One is based on the stability of Kapha and initiation of Pitta, a nutritionally significant phase and the other is based on the accumulated fluctuations of Pitta and ability to balance Vata, a metabolically dependent phase.

These days, children are more understanding and women are more adaptable. Applying knowledge with mutual support can result in a beautiful journey that empowers both the child and the mother.

This story was never about the Pregnancy.

Chronic gastritis can significantly impact quality of life. It also can cause other health issues like anemia, thyroid dysfunction, dyslipidemia and a host of metabolic/nutritional disorders due to disturbance in gut microbiota.

Get it corrected.

Hey everyone,

I know it’s a simple fact, but it’s worth repeating: warm temperatures create a perfect environment for bacteria, which means food can spoil much faster. It’s something we all must keep in mind, especially during these transitional weather periods.

I’ve already seen a few cases of food poisoning as the weather is heating up, so here’s a friendly reminder:

1. Milk spoils quickly - Make sure to boil it before using or adding it to whatever you’re cooking.
2. Store cooked food in the fridge - if you plan to use it again.
3. Cook in smaller portions - to avoid leftovers that sit out too long.
4. Be cautious with "fresh" food or dairy based items when ordering in.
5. Restaurants may overlook the rising temperatures. So, order wisely or consider skipping takeout for a few days. The same goes for dining out.

How long has it been since you started noticing the changes in the weather?
Or are you yet to begin that journey?

In my case , it is not until lately that I started doing this.
The obvious weather shifts, like the gentle change in temperature, the way the wind feels, the vibrant colors of new tender leaves, the bright shiny moon and the blooming flowers, they have always been there, but now, it all just seems more alive and connected to my existence.

So the question is, if this awareness is because of my association with Ayurveda or because of the wisdom that comes with age, or a mix of both.

Ayurveda taught me how to expand my understanding beyond the self, to realise how the large colonies of microflora within the body are in sync with everything around it. That is definitely Ayurveda' s contribution.
But, age also has taught me quite a bit.
How to be more attentive, inclusive, accepting, and engaged with the world outside. It has also made my body more sensitive to little changes outside, making me subconsciously a little more alert and mindful.

So what helped?

It is definitely both.

It is this perfect combination of knowledge (Ayurveda) and wisdom (age), of a holistic perspective (Ayurveda) and an increased sense of awareness (age) , just the right ratio of what is needed to bring moments of quite and pause even when life gets busy and complex.

I am truly happy it turned out this way.

So, again, how about you?
How long has it been?
Are you ready now?

Just look out and start observing.
Everything will start syncing.

🍀
