🙏 A challenging case, a gratifying outcome!
A 60-year-old mother of a pulmonologist came to us for a routine knee replacement, as advised by many. But during examination, I suspected something more — it turned out to be tuberculosis of the knee.
We started her treatment with a joint washout and an antibiotic spacer, followed by TB medications. Unfortunately, during her recovery, she had a fall and sustained a low distal femur fracture, on an already stiff joint.
With her ejection fraction at 30%, she wasn’t fit for multiple surgeries, and fixing the fracture alone wouldn’t guarantee union. I had to plan a single definitive surgery — a distal femur replacement with knee replacement.
Post-surgery:
✅ No significant pain
✅ Able to walk
✅ Knee bending well
A complex journey, but the smile on her face now says it all. 🙌
