"‘गुरु-गीता’ में ‘गुरु’ शब्द के अर्थ की व्याख्या इस प्रकार की गई है —

गुशब्दश्चान्धकार: स्याद् रुशब्दस्तन्निरोधक:।
अन्धकारनिरोधित्वात् गुरुरित्यभिधीयते ॥

— ‘‘‘गु’’ शब्द का अर्थ है अन्धकार और ‘‘रु’’ शब्द का अर्थ है निरोधक। जो अन्धकार या अज्ञान को दूर कर देते हैं, उन्हें ‘‘गुरु’’ कहा जाता है।

गुरुपूर्णिमा के पावन अवसर पर भक्त लोग अपने-अपने गुरुजनों के प्रति श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करते हैं। इसी तिथि पर व्यासदेव ने जन्म लिया था, अत: गुरुपूर्णिमा को व्यास-पूर्णिमा भी कहते हैं।

प्रश्न उठता है कि व्यासदेव की जन्मतिथि को गुरुपूर्णिमा क्यों कहा गया? संक्षेप में कहें तो वेदव्यास ने महाभारत के माध्यम से उपनिषदों के गहन तत्त्व आम जनता के लिए सहज रूप में प्रस्तुत किए, इसीलिए वे गुरुरूप में पूजे जाते हैं। वेदों का विभाजन करने के कारण वे वेदव्यास के नाम से विख्यात हुए। फिर उन्होंने उपनिषदों के मूल तत्त्वों को शृंखलाबद्ध करके ब्रह्मसूत्र की रचना भी की। अट्ठारह पुराण भी उन्हीं के द्वारा रचित कहे जाते हैं। गीता महाभारत का एक अंश है, जिसमें सभी शास्त्रों के मूल-तत्त्व सहज रूप से प्रस्तुत किए गए हैं। इनके अलावा एक संहिता भी है, जिसके रचयिता वेदव्यास कहे जाते हैं, जिसमें हिन्दुओं के आचार-व्यवहार-पद्धति का विवरण है। उन्नीस संहिताओं में यह ‘व्यास संहिता’ भी एक है।"

1) Regular chanting practice helps people live calmer lives, endure stress even in high-pressure jobs and trying circumstances, and live longer and healthier lives. Some researches suggest that chanting could help fight early-stage blood pressure and stress-related complications that have multiplied today.
2) Mantras have the capacity to benefit those who are chanting them, as well as benefiting all living beings, since the energy of the sounds moves outward infinitely.
3) Chanting is a deeply meditative exercise that helps boost concentration, and lowers tendency for violence and anger among children.
4) Chanting can improve attention and lift mood. Even if you just listen to the chants, it has a therapeutic healing effect on your body and mind.
5) Improves concentration: Regular chanting will cause profound changes in the mind-body physiology and psychology, thereby bringing out more focus on a particular task and increasing concentration.
6) ​Reduces violence and anger: Letting go is a very powerful technique, but it’s very difficult to let go of anger and frustration. Regular practice of chanting has proven to bring the desired change in attitude and the way we respond to situations.

As part of our month-long "HEALTHIER-YOU" online Yoga Workshop, we at Yoga Parikrama were fortunate to host the "ASK THE DOCTOR - Be Careful, Not Fearful" virtual session where we invited an expert in this domain to answer questions from participants about COVID-19, BLACK FUNGUS, and HUMAN IMMUNITY.

The 45-minute informative session had Dr Avijit Paul, MBBS and PG Diploma in Clinical Cardiology, from Bellevue Hospital, Kolkata, fielding worried questions from participants. He has been in the front-line, involved in treating patients in the ICUs and otherwise, since the beginning of the pandemic.

It has become even more important now to stay safe and practice the ancient Yogic practices right from our homes. Yoga doesn’t need any sophisticated equipment, it just needs a will to practice and a smile to support that. If you’re not already practicing, let’s make the promise to ourselves and begin a transformational journey towards a strong body and mind.🙏

🙏✅ YOGA uses your own body weight to build endurance and strengthen muscles. Not only can Yoga make you more flexible and reduce stress, it can also make your body strong. Yoga is thus a simple way that works as strength training for the body and mind. It's a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses.🙏

🙏✅ In whatever we wish to achieve in our lives, the key to achieve success is PRACTICE or ABHYASA. Practicing with utmost determination, clarity and certainty is the way to achieve any goal in life. Yoga teaches us the methods to practice and make the practice perfect. It is said that Theory is only 1 percent and the rest 99 percent is about Practice. This is the key to Yoga abhyasa as well.🙏

SAGE PATANJALI in the Yoga SUTRAS explains Abhyasa as:

🙏 स तु दीर्घकाल नैरन्तर्यसत्कारासेवितो दृढभूमिः ॥१४॥

Sa-Tu-Dirghakala-Nairantarya-Satkara-Asevitah-Drdhbhumih ||14||

This Sutra tells us how we should practice Yoga:

⏱ Deerghakala - We should continue to practice Yoga regularly for a long time without becoming anxious about the results. Short term expectations and result-oriented practice will only create more anxiety and hamper the flow of practice. Therefore, we should just be positive and continue the Abhyasa.

🎯 Nairantarya - We should practice Yoga without interruption and make it a way of life. Yoga is not just Asanas and Pranayama that we can practice for few hours and forget about its true essence during the other times of the day. Yoga should become a part of our personality and life.

🙏 Satkara - Yoga should be practiced with full earnestness, devotion and faith, without any doubt.

🧘‍♀️Sage Patanjali thus declares that if we practice YOGA ABHYASA with faith and conviction continuously for a long time, it will DEFINITELY bring about a wonderful positive transformation of the body and mind.🧘‍♂️
