What's the most satisfying moment for a doctor even in 2025 !....Owning a bungalow in Indiranagar ? driving fancy cars ? Exotic foreign trips ?.....NOPE...it's always seeing your patients recover from serious illnesses...Excited to share the story of a shepherd family from Belgaum district. They met me in Davangere clinic with their 5 year old son having bleeding from nose and they had lost a kid earlier with a similar problem. They were quite apprehensive and they had left their flocks in a nearby village. On seeing him I was sure it was Fanconi anemia with bone marrow failure ,where blood counts fall rapidly and requires life saving bone marrow transplant as early as possible. Many such children won't get treated on time and die of bleeding and infections. I counselled parents regarding bone marrow transplant and need for family screening.Unfortunately even their 3 year old daughter also found to have Fanconi anemia. The brave parents took a firm decision and moved to Bangalore as advised and left all their flocks in Davangere. Finally their efforts and perseverance paid off. Both the kids underwent life saving bone marrow transplant at our center with help of funds from coal India and other organisations. They are doing well post transplant.
