Diabetes can affect many parts of the body, including the eyes.

How diabetes affects vision:
High blood sugar damages tiny blood vessels in the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy.

Early warning signs:
• Blurred vision
• Floaters or dark spots
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Sudden vision changes

In many cases, eye damage begins silently without noticeable symptoms.

Prevention tips:
• Maintain controlled blood sugar levels
• Regular eye examinations
• Healthy diet and exercise
• Proper diabetes management

Early screening helps detect changes before vision loss occurs. Protecting eye health is an essential part of managing diabetes and maintaining clear vision long term.

Retinal detachment is an eye emergency.

Flashes of light, sudden floaters, or a dark curtain-like shadow in vision may indicate retinal detachment. Delayed treatment can lead to permanent vision loss.

Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it progresses without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. It damages the optic nerve, usually due to increased pressure inside the eye.

The earliest vision loss occurs in the peripheral (side) vision. Since central vision remains clear initially, most patients do not recognize the change. Gradually, untreated glaucoma narrows the visual field, creating tunnel vision. In advanced stages, central vision can also be permanently affected.

Risk factors include age above 40, family history, diabetes, high eye pressure, prolonged steroid use, and certain eye injuries.

The most important fact: vision lost from glaucoma cannot be restored. However, early detection through regular eye check-ups can prevent further damage. Eye pressure measurement, optic nerve examination, and visual field testing are essential screening tools.

Treatment may include eye drops, laser therapy, or surgery depending on severity. With timely management, progression can be significantly slowed.

Routine screening is critical—even without symptoms. Protecting vision begins before you notice a problem.

Your eyes work nonstop — screens, AC, stress, pollution, long hours. Over time, they start sending signals.
Dryness, burning, blurry vision, frequent headaches or eye strain aren’t things to “adjust to.” They’re signs your eyes need attention.

Regular eye checkups aren’t only about changing glasses. They help prevent discomfort, protect vision, and catch problems before they become long-term.

If your eyes are asking for a break, listen early. Clear, comfortable vision is easier to maintain than to restore.

Diabetes can steal your vision without ever causing pain. High blood sugar levels damage the tiny, delicate blood vessels in the retina.

The early stages often show no symptoms at all, but vision can drop suddenly later on. Regular retina checks and timely treatments like laser or injections can protect your eyesight. If you have diabetes, make a yearly retina screening your priority. 👓🙏
