Dr. Ashlesha Bagadia is a Perinatal Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience.

After training in UK and Australia,her interest in attachment related issues led her to Canada where she completed a Fellowship in Perinatal Psychiatry & Women’s Mental Health through the University of Toronto.

At in Bengaluru, she works with mental health issues arising during pregnancy and post partum.

She is an external researcher with the Dept of Perinatal Psychiatry at NIMHANS, and is involved with developing screening pathways for perinatal mental health disorders.
She is the director and co-founder of The Parc, an organisation through which she conducts workshops and training courses on various therapeutic skills for counsellors, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and mental health clinicians from any background.

A full term baby has a gestational period of 40 weeks. When the baby spends less time in the womb of the mother, it is said to be preterm. Based on the number of weeks of gestation, they can be categorised as:

November is World Prematurity Awareness Month.
Many parents of premature babies sometimes wonder if their baby was born early because of what they did or ate--that extra flight of stairs? Maybe that sweeping and swabbing the house? That spicy street food?

In conversation with Dr Merlin Kishore i learnt that most preterm labours start spontaneously with no particular cause. Some could be due to early amniotic fluid leak ( PPROM) or cervical incompetence.
Some pregnancies need to end in medically advised preterm birth for the health of the birthing parent or baby.

So while the cause for a preterm birth may not be entirely predictable, these little steps in pregnancy can be a safeguard.

A joint online study conducted by Milx.fox and Pollfish uncovered some really disheartening findings where 31 percent of the total respondents admiited they had been shamed for breastfeeding in the public. Additionally only 40 percent said that they supported women breastfeeding in public. 😔

Standing in 2022, this is one challenge that needs overcoming. We need a world that's more breastfeeding-friendly, has flexible workplaces, more breastfeeding rooms, and affordable childcare to accomodate all kinds of mothers. ☑️

The weather in Bengaluru right now demands bisi bisi kaapi or at the very least a bowl of comforting soup.

I'd bought this instant soup mix for times exactly such as these. My usual instinct would be to just prep as per instructions and slurp it up watching the rain. 🌧🍲

Because I've been doing some reading on labels, i just turned the pack over and was rather flabbergasted by what I saw.

So.Much.Sugar😳

I never buy a book however attractive the cover, unless i flip through it and see if I like what I'm reading.

And here I was, all set to blindly set myself up for all kinds of harm.
