Shoulder pain is a common problem. It is the third most common cause of musculoskeletal consultation. There are many things that can cause shoulder pain
For most people, it will improve over time with appropriate treatment
In younger people, pain is more likely to be due to an accident or injury. However as you age natural wear and tear occurs in the shoulder joint and the rotator cuff tendon. This may become persistently painful over time.

The four most common causes of shoulder pain and disability are rotator cuff disorders, glenohumeral disorders, acromioclavicular joint disease, and referred neck pain.

Adhesive capsulitis (FROZEN SHOULDER) one of the most common problem seen in shoulder is characterised by deep joint pain, and restrict activities such as putting on a clothes, reaching behind back, reaching overhead etc. Adhesive capsulitis is more common in people with diabetes and may also occur after prolonged immobilisation.

The good news is that with appropriate treatment pain will improve so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Knee pain is a common symptom in people of all ages. It may start suddenly, often after an injury or exercise. Knee pain also may begin as a mild discomfort, then slowly get worse.

Knee pain can have different causes. Being overweight puts you at greater risk for knee problems. Overusing your knee can trigger knee problems that cause pain. If you have a history of arthritis, it could also cause knee pain.

Some of the most common knee injuries include sprains, ligament tears, fractures, and dislocations.

Many knee injuries can be successfully treated with simple measures, such as bracing and rehabilitation exercises. Other injuries may require surgery to correct.

Physiotherapy is aimed at providing maximum flexibility and mobility to the knee joints. In addition to this, it also helps in managing knee pain, strengthening the muscles around the knee joints, reversing the damage and preventing further episodes of pain and injury.

Ergonomics is the study of people in their workplace and is the process in which workplaces, products and systems are designed or rearranged so that they fit the people who use them. It aims to improve workspaces and environments to reduce the risk of injury.

Factors that contribute to poor ergonomics include working in awkward positions; having a poorly set-up workstation; overexerting yourself when lifting, pushing or pulling; and sitting for too long in one position.

To avoid ergonomics issues:

1) Stretch and walk around regularly; do not remain sedentary.
2) Do not ignore pain. Inform your supervisor immediately if you experience ergonomic discomfort on the job.
3) Refrain from carrying items that are too heavy.
4) Sleep on a quality mattress that supports good posture.
5) Select tools that are ergonomically designed for comfort.
