I had the opportunity to interact with the members of a community association near Manipal Hospital, Kanakapura Road, delivering a talk on:
• Recognizing red flag signs in family members that need urgent medical attention
• Accessing emergency care quickly and effectively
• The shift in disease patterns – from infectious illnesses to the rising burden of chronic lifestyle disorders

The session was further enriched by the presence and insights of my colleagues – Dr. Rohan Nambiar (Orthopaedics), Dr. Gajendra (Gastroenterology), and our Hospital Director Mr. Mohan Hariharan.

Engaging with communities like this helps bridge the gap between awareness and action, empowering people to make timely, informed health decisions.

“Mitti Café – A Café Run by People with Disabilities

Visited Mitti Café at the airport yesterday with my family.
Started in 2015 by Alina Alam (at just 23 years old), this unique initiative runs over 40 cafés across India, entirely managed by people with disabilities — serving with warmth, efficiency, and dignity.

A simple meal here carries a powerful message of inclusion and opportunity. Truly impressed by the vision.

If you spot a Mitti Café during your travels, do stop by.

🦟 How Does Dengue Spread? Here’s the Real Cycle You Need to Know ⬇️

1️⃣ A viremic person (just infected) is bitten by an Aedes aegypti mosquito.
2️⃣ The mosquito becomes infected and turns infective in ~10 days.
3️⃣ This infective mosquito bites a healthy human.
4️⃣ That human now becomes infected and can infect other mosquitoes 4–13 days later.

🔁 And the vicious cycle continues…

🚨 Key takeaway:
Stopping the mosquito-human-mosquito chain is the only way to break the outbreak.

💡 Prevent bites. Control breeding. Stay alert.

India’s Toddlers Are Staring at Screens Twice as Long as They Should

🧠 A disturbing new study reveals that Indian children under age 5 are spending an average of 2.2 hours per day on screens — double the safe limit recommended by global guidelines.

👶 For kids under 2 years, the average is 1.2 hours/day — when the ideal screen time is zero.

🧾 This meta-analysis by AIIMS Raipur (published in Cureus) analyzed 2,857 children across 10 studies, sounding a loud alarm on India’s digital parenting gap.

🔴 Screens are replacing play, sleep, and face-to-face bonding — all vital for brain development.

🔍 Why it matters:
• Linked to speech delay, sleep problems, poor attention, and childhood obesity
• WHO and IAP recommend:
🚫 No screen time for children

🩺 Happy Doctors’ Day to my fellow colleagues across the country!

Today isn’t just a celebration — it’s a reminder.

A reminder of:
✔️ The lives we touch
✔️ The sleepless nights and silent sacrifices
✔️ The commitment to keep learning, healing, and showing up — even when it’s hard

💡 Interesting fact: India celebrates Doctors’ Day on July 1st in honour of Dr. B.C. Roy, a legendary physician who believed that a doctor’s duty goes beyond the clinic — into society, into service.

As a doctor, I’ve learned that healing is not just about prescribing medicine — it’s about listening, understanding, and walking with people through their toughest days.

🙏 Grateful to be in this noble profession.
💐 Saluting every doctor who continues to serve with heart and humility.

🩺 Weekly Insulin? It’s Now a Reality.

A new study published in The Lancet shows that once-a-week insulin (efsitora alfa) works just as well as daily insulin glargine (U100) in people with type 2 diabetes.

👉 Similar blood sugar control
👉 Similar safety and risk of low sugar
👉 Only 1 injection per week

This could make life easier for many patients who struggle with daily insulin.

But here’s the big question for India:
💰 What will it cost?
If it’s too expensive, many patients may not benefit.
Only Eli Lilly can answer that.

For now, it’s an exciting step forward — and may change how we think about insulin therapy.

🔬 Science-Backed Benefits of Fasting – A Deep Dive at Art of Living

🧘‍♂️ Grateful for the opportunity to speak at the serene Art of Living campus, where science met spirituality in the most meaningful way.

This enriching health session was organized by Manipal Hospital, Kanakapura Road, to promote preventive care and holistic well-being.

🎤 I had the privilege of sharing evidence-based insights on the health benefits of fasting, including:

✅ Improved insulin sensitivity
✅ Reduced inflammation
✅ Cellular autophagy (cellular-level cleansing)
✅ Weight loss and metabolic reset
✅ Better mental clarity and focus
✅ Longevity and reduced risk of chronic diseases

📖 Backed by top-tier research from NEJM, Cell Metabolism, and other reputed journals — fasting is more than a tradition, it’s a science-backed path to healing.

💓 The session also featured an insightful talk on CPR and life-saving interventions by Dr. Pavan Kumar Rasalkar, Consultant Cardiologist.

Together, we explored how lifestyle and emergency preparedness can go hand-in-hand in transforming healthcare outcomes.

Let’s continue to blend ancient wisdom with modern science for a healthier tomorrow.
