It was a little over 5 years ago, soon after Dhriti Center (Dhriti Center for ABA and Autism related services) opened its doors that Jas joined us at the age of 12 + Failed by the mainstream, who were unable to understand his needs and learning style like countless other children. He came to Dhriti wondering if there would be friends here for him. Garima is a driven mother and was not going to give up so easily on her first born. She and Kamlesh brought Jas to Dhriti wondering I’m sure if they were doing the right thing for their child. It was a turbulent first year with a lot of questions from Jas with a fair amount of pushing back from him. We who had known him since he was 6 years old were not about to give up. We used all our skills of positive reinforcement and made his day as fun as we could. Jas was very soon our sunshine boy who lit up the center with his chattering. His interest in all children and teachers incessant and his joy of collecting personal information made remembering birthdays so easy for us as we now had information on upcoming events well before the due date!!
The journey to get back into the academic stream was rocky but with Garima’s help with Handwriting especially 😄 we slowly began to cross the milestones. Until one day we said let’s register for the NIOS program!
We started with our heart in our mouth but we persevered. Jas was soon a model pupil willing to sit and work on the subjects chosen without ever a complaint.
IT HAS FINALLY PAID OFF !
Jas passed his 10th grade and we now look to the future with renewed hope.
God bless you Jas for being such a gem of a person and a pupil.
