History of BNS:
Way back in 1983 a small group of neuroscientists of Bangalore joined together to form an informal group known as "Neuro Club" with the purpose of conducting clinical meeting once a month. "Bangalore Neurological Society" took its birth on 1st of April 1994, with Dr. Deshpande as the first President and Dr. H.V. Srinivas as the Hon Secretary. The clinical meetings on 1st Saturday o
f every month was continued unfailingly and in addition CME programmes were added to the academic activities. The first CME was conducted in 1996 and the topic was Neuro Tuberculosis. In view of the growing number of the members a membership directory was brought out in February 1996. Bangalore Neurological Society subsequently became a registered society under the Societies Act from 16th February 1999, the founder members being Dr. H.V. Srinivas, Dr. S.K. Shankar, Dr.K.V.R. Sastry, Dr. N.K. Venkataramana, Dr. T. Vasudeva Rao, Dr. R. Srinivasa, Dr. T. Hegde and Dr. B.P. Mruthyunjayanna. The main activity of the Society continues to be the first Saturday clinical meeting where in neuroscientists of different institutions present cases and interact with other members. In addition CME programmes are being conducted regularly. Mallige Medical Centre and Indian Epilepsy Association, Bangalore Chapter have donated Rs. 50,000/- each to Bangalore Neurological Society in 1999, to institute Dr. R.M.Varma oration and K.S. Mani oration respectively. Bangalore Neurological Society conducted these orations on alternate years beginning with the first R.M. Varma oration in the year 2000 the orator being Dr. Sunil Pandya from Bombay. Dr. H.V. Srinivas
