Though we may not understand other cultures and other traditions, the thing we all know and understand is pain; be it physical or psychological (and it can be argued that those are the same). We all know pain. When I meet new clients or parents, whose children are my clients, their pain is palpable.

Systemic Listening Therapy can be the first step to alleviate some of the suffering. So can our abiding presence in a safe space - compassionate listening, if you will.

Paraphrased from the poem

“Be thankful,
Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire, if you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don’t know something, it gives you the opportunity to learn. Be thankful for the difficult times, during those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes, they will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference. Be thankful for past relationships, someone better suited to you is waiting out there. It is easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks. Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.”

Thank you 2025 for all you taught me.

Happy New Year!!

Walk slowly, act slowly. Be gentle with yourselves. The world will try to force you to move ever faster. But we are all only here for a moment. Every moment of you is precious! So slow down. Know yourself fully and share your light. It is needed in these dark times. So be gentle, breathe deeply and walk slowly.

Supporting my clients isn’t something that starts or stops once the headphones are on.

It begins with the greeting at the door, an intentional question, or a seemingly typical check-in. It happens during the assessment, each time the music changes, consultations and wrapping up after a session.

Whether it’s a few moments, 8 minutes or an hour. It is about understanding the importance of being seen, heard and witnessed within a safe space.

Back to “basics” is about returning to “humaness”; compassion in connection.

Taking care of ourselves is so important in this field, because what was broken in relationship can also heal in relationship.

I realized the previous video was a mirror image and the title’s difficult to read, so here we go again with a slightly different list of wonderful resources.
Dirk Beckedorf & Franz Müller: “From resonance to bonding “
Stephen Porges: “The Polyvagal Theory”
Daniel Stern: “Diary of a baby”
Bessel Van der Kolk: “The body keeps the score”
Bert Powell, Glen Cooper, Kent Hoffman & Bob Marvin: “The circle of security internvention”
Gabor Maté: “The myth of normal”

All impact my work both in listening therapy as well as compassionate inquiry work!

Aside from the founder of listening therapy, Dr. Alfred Tomatis, some noteworthy individuals are:
1. Dr. Stephen Porges: “The Polyvagal Theory”
2. Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk: “The body keeps the score”
3. Dr. Daniel Stern: “Diary of a baby”
4. Dr. Daniel Siegel: “Brainstorm”
5. Dr. Gabor Maté: “In the realm of hungry ghosts”

Of course my guiding principle in my work is grounded in Dr. Dirk Beckedorf and Franz Müller book: “From resonance to bonding”.

When we come from a place of curiosity, we are free of fear. How would we show up if we came from a place of curiosity? How might we be able to solve our problems? How might we be able to affect the people around us?

How does the state of being curious feel in our body and to our mind?

Listen with the body.

Systemic listening therapy is rooted in the groundbreaking research of Dr. Alfred Tomatis (1920 to 2001), a French ear nose and throat physician. Dr. Tomatis discovered a fundamental link between the ear and the voice; shaping what would become the Tomatis Method. By combining advances in brain plasticity, auditory processing, and emotional regulation, Systemic listening therapy helps individuals improve cognitive function, language acquisition, emotional well-being, and overall sensory integration.
