The Effect Of Cupping Therapy (Al-Hijama) On The Endocrine And Metabolism In Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Patients

Abstract
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of cupping therapy on the endocrine and metabolic indicators opatients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. The primary outcome measured was the effect on thereproductive hormonal profile and metabolites before and after Hijama. The secondary outcome measured was pregnancy rates after Hijama. Prophetic medicine recommended Al-Hijama and considered it as the best remedy.
Methods: Research Design. This study was a pilot clinical study.
Setting: The study was conducted at Prophetic Medicine Research Clinic, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the period between January 2013 to December 2016.
Sample: Forty-one women (38 married (25 from them have infertility) and 3 unmarried). All patients signed consent. They followed one year before cupping therapy and stopped medical treatment three months before it, they received cupping therapy for three consecutive months. Inclusion criteria: women aged from 25-45 years old diagnosed polycystic ovarian syndrome. We excluded other causes of hyperandrogenisis, syndromes of severe insulin resistance, Late onset non-classic 21 hydroxylase deficiency, ovarian androgen-secreting tumors, use of anabolic or androgenic drugs, Cushing’s syndrome, hypothalamic and pituitary disorders causing amenorrhea, premature ovarian failure, we assessed in all patient before and after cupping therapy the following thyroid stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, estradiol, progesterone, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein and C-reactive protein.
