Respectful, family-centric, compassionate care: a reality in Bangalore.
August 2019 the doors will open at Bangalore’s first comprehensive birth center, The Birth Home. The Birth Home will serve women with low risk pregnancies and have a formal tie up with leading hospitals for medical back up less then 2 km from the Birth Home.
Since 2007 women have come to the Bangalore Birth Network with questions and concerns about the care they are offered in the city. Women have come to us for alternatives to the hospital birthing system.
Advocacy, education and outreach with women, families, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators has made a small change in the unacceptably high rates of c-sections and disrespectful, non-consented care. In parallel evidence showing the importance of MIDWIFERY in managing low risk pregnancy and birth to improve birth outcomes is mounting.
