Keeping Hope Alive Through Comprehensive Therapy at CVI Clinic @ NN

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a visual condition caused by damage to the brain’s visual processing centres rather than the eyes themselves. Children with CVI may have structurally healthy eyes, but their brains struggle to interpret what they see, leading to challenges in recognizing faces, objects, and processing visual information.

In this video, the mother and grandmother of a child with CVI share their journey and experiences at the CVI Clinic at Narayana Nethralaya.

At our centre, CVI treatment is holistic and brings together essential therapies such as vision therapy, physiotherapy, and speech therapy — all under one roof. The clinic is also equipped with advanced treatment options like syntonic light therapy and supported by a dedicated team of doctors, optometrists, and therapists who provide personalized care for children of all ages.

If you think your child may have CVI, please visit us at Narayana Nethralaya, Rajajinagar Branch or call us at 080-66121615 to book an appointment.

How to Protect Your Child from the Risk of Myopia?

It is predicted that 1 in 3 children will be affected by myopia by 2050. The factors leading to an increased risk of myopia are:

• Lack of outdoor play in the sun
• Increased screen time
• Genetics

In this video, Dr. Pratibha Panmand, Consultant, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Neuro-ophthalmology, Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore, sheds light on the risk factors for myopia in children and the ways to prevent it.

If you feel that your child is showing symptoms of myopia, such as struggling to read or squinting to see the blackboard or rubbing eyes and complaining of blurry vision, get an eye examination done to detect myopia early and help slow its progression.

🚴‍♂️ Ride for Sight 2025 – Highlights from the cyclothon 👁️

As part of the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight (25 Aug – 8 Sept), Narayana Nethralaya organized the Cyclothon – Ride for Sight on 7th Sept 2025 at 7:15 am from its Whitefield branch.

Over 150 cyclists—students, doctors, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens—came together to spread awareness about eye donation and the priceless gift of sight.

The event was flagged off by Dr. Naren Shetty, Director, Narayana Nethralaya, and Dr. Harsha Nagaraj, Medical Superintendent, Narayana Nethralaya Whitefield, in the presence of Gp Capt S. K. Mittal, VSM, CEO.

Dr. Naren Shetty emphasized the urgent need to bridge the gap between the demand and availability of corneal tissue:
“Over 2 lakh corneas are needed annually, but only 22,000 are donated. If more people come forward, we can reduce the burden of corneal blindness. The most precious gift you can give another person is your eyes.”

Gp Capt S. K. Mittal, VSM urged everyone to donate their eyes instead of burning or burying them. Dr. Harsha Nagaraj thanked all the cyclists for coming forward to support this noble cause.

🏅 Every participant received a certificate of appreciation, but the true reward was the spirit of unity and hope shared by all who pedalled for the cause.

🙏 Narayana Nethralaya thanks everyone who joined hands to keep this mission alive. Together, we can light up lives and end corneal blindness.

“Doctor, how do I choose the right lenses for my cataract surgery?”

Selecting the appropriate lens after cataract surgery is a significant decision, as it directly influences the quality of vision and overall quality of life. Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are available in various types—monofocal, multifocal, toric, and extended depth of focus (EDOF)—each designed to address specific visual requirements.

In this video, Dr. Dish*tha Rathod Gowda, Consultant, Cataract and Refractive Services, Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore, explains the different kinds of lenses used to restore vision during cataract surgery.
Monofocal lenses provide clear vision at a single distance, while advanced options such as multifocal and EDOF lenses offer clarity across multiple ranges, reducing or even eliminating the need for glasses. Toric lenses additionally correct astigmatism along with cataracts. The choice of lens depends on your lifestyle, visual expectations, and existing eye conditions, making it essential to consult your ophthalmologist to identify the option best suited to your needs.
