What Causes Dry Eyes? A Curious Mystery Waiting to Be Solved 👁️
Redness? Itchy, gritty sensation? Blurry vision? Don’t self-diagnose dry eyes or rely only on lubricating drops. Proper evaluation is a must for diagnosis.
In this video, Dr. Apurva Bansod, Consultant in the Cataract and Refractive Surgery at Narayana Nethralaya explains the importance of a comprehensive examination to accurately diagnose Dry Eye Disease (DED). Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is a common cause of DED. Key signs include irritation, dryness, sensitivity to cold and wind, and blurred vision.
Diagnosis may involve Tear Film Break-Up Time (TBUT) testing (less than 5 seconds indicates tear film instability), lid margin examination for redness or thickening, gentle expression of eyelids to assess oil quality (clear oil suggests healthy glands, toothpaste-like secretion suggests MGD), and meibography — an infrared scan that helps detect gland loss or dropout.
Our Electronic City branch offers specialised advanced diagnostics and treatment for dry eye disease, along with streamlined processes and minimal waiting times.

Not all eye drops are the same — and the wrong one can do more harm than good.

Different eye conditions require different medications:
• Lubricants for dry eye
• Anti-allergic drops for allergies
• Antibiotics for infections
• Steroids — only under medical supervision

A common mistake people make is using over-the-counter eye drops without knowing:
• The exact condition
• What the drop contains
• How long it should be used

Overuse of steroid drops can increase eye pressure and affect vision.
Incorrect antibiotic use can delay recovery and contribute to resistance.
Sometimes, the wrong drop may simply mask symptoms while the underlying problem progresses.

Eye drops are medications — not general relief solutions.

For accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment, consult an eye specialist.

Looking for greater visual freedom after cataract surgery? lenses explained
In this video, Dr. Sushma Tejwani, Consultant – Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery, talks about how EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) lenses can help you achieve clear, functional vision with reduced dependence on glasses.
EDOF lenses are advanced intraocular lenses designed to create an extended focal range. Unlike monofocal lenses that focus at only one distance, EDOF lenses provide smoother transitions between distance and intermediate vision — making activities like driving, using digital devices, and watching television more comfortable.
🔹 Why Choose EDOF Lenses?
✔️ Clear distance vision
✔️ Enhanced intermediate vision (ideal for screens)
✔️ Reduced glare and halos compared to traditional multifocal lenses
✔️ Stable, high-quality vision

Watch this reel as we decode the Science Behind Vision—this fascinating reality is sure to blow your mind. Dr. Darshini L M, Pediatric Consultant and Neuro-ophthalmologist at Narayana Nethralaya, breaks down this complex system into a simpler concept.

It starts when light enters the eye and flips the world upside down. From there, your brain takes over to translate that raw data into the world you see: the colors, depth, contrast, and the wide field.

Every view is a miracle of biological engineering. ✨

Can Astigmatism Be Corrected Along With Cataract Surgery? Toric Lenses Explained

Toric lenses are advanced intraocular lenses (IOLs) designed to correct astigmatism — a condition where an uneven cornea or lens causes blurry or distorted vision.

In this video, Dr. Prashanth R, Consultant, Cataract and Glaucoma Services at Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore, breaks down how Toric Lenses work and who can benefit from them after cataract surgery.

Unlike regular IOLs with uniform curvature, Toric Lenses offer different powers along specific meridians, helping light focus accurately on the retina. This provides sharper, clearer vision and can significantly reduce dependency on glasses for distance vision, especially in people with pre-existing astigmatism.
